Mondavi Center Adds Performances from Samantha Bee, Andrew Bird and David Sedaris
By: A.A. Cristi
The Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis is pleased to announce the addition three new shows to its 2017-18 Season: In Conversation With Samantha Bee Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 8 p.m.; Andrew Bird, Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 7 p.m.; and An Evening With David Sedaris, Wednesday, May 9, 2018. All three shows will be in Jackson Hall, and go on sale this Friday, July 14 at noon.
Samantha Bee has quickly established herself as one of the most unique and sharp comedic voices on television with her late-night show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Bee began her career performing as a member of the all-female sketch comedy troupe The Atomic Fireballs. The longest-serving regular correspondent (12 years) in Daily Show history is joined in conversation on this special West Coast tour. Andrew Bird is an internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, whistler and songwriter who picked up his first violin at the age of four and spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear. As a teen Bird became interested in a variety of styles including early jazz, country blues and folk music, synthesizing them into his unique brand of pop. With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has become one of America's pre-eminent humor writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today. Sedaris' new book is a collection of his diaries, entitled Theft By Finding Diaries (1977-2002). His next book will be David Sedaris Diaries: A Visual Compendium (October 2017, Little, Brown and Company). The Decemberists
