Molly Burch Releases CANDY, New Single Off FIRST FLOWER Out 10/5 on Captured Tracks

On October 5, the Texas-based Molly Burch will release her sophomore album, First Flower via Captured Tracks. Today she shares the latest single off the album, "Candy" Calling her album "timeless" Gorilla Vs Bear premiered the single labeling it a, "playfully empowering and tone-setting album opener." Of the single Molly says, "I wrote "Candy" after a long conversation with my dad on the phone, where I had been just walking around getting out a lot of my self doubt and creative anxieties. It may sound like I'm talking to a past love, but it's really meant for that voice in my head that tells me a negative narrative. Anxiety can be so addictive (like candy **will see if we can insert emojoi!**) - the cycle of it, the relief after you've spent time worrying about something that turns out fine. I felt like writing about all of this because it's a significant part of my waking life, but all wrapped up in a sweet pop song."

Today's single is the follow up to "To The Boys" and "Wild." Molly tours North Americain support of First Flower with dates that kick off in Austin, TX on October 5 with a slot at Austin City Limits Festival. She and her band hit NYC's Rough Trade on October 13 and the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles on October 26. The tour concludes November8 and she heads to Europe the following week. All dates are listed below and ticket information is here.

First Flower is the follow up to Burch's acclaimed debut Please Be Mine. It is a walk-through Molly's most intimate thoughts, exploring broken friendships, her relationship to her sister and how she learned to fight overwhelming anxiety. Throughout, her voice is as strong and dexterous as ever, displaying her incredible range and professionalism as a vocalist.

While hurricane Harvey kept Molly locked in at home, she wrote much of the album, bouncing ideas off her bandmate and boyfriend Dailey Toliver who would contribute guitar parts and orchestration suggestions. When it came time to record, Burch chose to work with Erik Wofford at Cacophony Recorders in Austin.
