Joseph Lorenzo Wise Releases “We Shall Overcome” For Black History Month

Joseph Lorenzo Wise has released "We Shall Overcome" for Black History Month.

"I never thought I would be releasing "We Shall Overcome", as a record, but the response to the song has been overwhelming. These turbulent times have brought back the Civil Rights Anthem in a big way. Having grown up in Atlanta, Georgia during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, the song was sung all over the place, even just around the house as we hoped for a better brighter tomorrow. Then Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated, and the song took on an even more powerful meaning as we sang it to mourn the loss of a great leader. I still remember Mahalia Jackson singing "We Shall Overcome" to the crowd of fired up civil rights activists", Wise says.

It is fitting that with the current struggles the country faces that this song now has new life. Even in rural counties that are mostly white, activists, leaders and community members have joined hands, singing the anthem.

"We Shall Overcome" is Wise's second musical 2018 release, the first being a bit of television history, "Bachelor No.1 Remix, a combination of the Bachelor No. 1 Video", the song "Hollywood Fantasy Love", and the "Date Review Video", all in one place. Joseph also has two new video releases in 2018 "Tayama" Joseph Lorenzo "In the Kitchen", where he offers a product review of the Tayama Indoor Grill and Sinatra's "Nice n Easy", as a musical inspiration for 2018, and JLW 2018 Figure Skating Update, with a second Figure Skating Update coming out right before the Olympics.

"I'm a record producer and this song has a decibel level that is just hot beautiful revival racket, it's just a good time and folks getting into it, it's live and raw. That's why it's important, it's a moment captured, a performance captured, a song filled with life and hope and ferocity! When I started on the artwork, I found this graphic of Mother Earth with a big tear rolling down her cheek, I knew that was the global image for "We Shall Overcome", Joseph Lorenzo explains.

Donzaleigh Abernathy, actress/writer and daughter of Ralph Abernathy and a daughter of the Civil Rights movement heard the song and loved it. That was an awesome and incredible validation that the song transcends the ages, it is just as relevant today as it was back then in Selma and today in Selma where a voice of Freedom rose up against prejudice and inequality.

In 2017 Joseph Lorenzo received a grant from the Grammy Foundation, The Recording Academy and MusiCares. He also released a Spanish language single "Eres Tu". Joseph Lorenzo is one of the original Porters from "On the Twentieth Century" and appears in the short film "The Grand Romantic" with Fun's Nate Ruess.
