Dr. Willie Parker Joins Lady Parts Justice League to Destroy Abortion Myths

In their latest hilarious video release, "MythCrashers," the Lady Parts Justice League (LPJL) continues their mission of combining humor with advocacy to shut down the alternative facts being used to create dangerous laws around birth control and abortion. LPJL's "MythCrashers" is a parody of the popular reality show, "MythBusters." Just like the actual "Mythbusters," LPJL's "MythCrashers" hosts employ the help of an expert to put the "myths" (read straight up lies) around the risks of abortion to the test.

In this "episode", expert Dr. Willie Parker, an actual OB-GYN who specializes in abortion care, watches in disbelief as the hosts try to wedge big, flashy "mythcrashing" stunts into his explanation of how safe and simple the various abortion procedures actually are. LPJL believes using an over-the-top format of gearhead shows like Mythbusters, juxtaposed with a doctor explaining an easy medical procedure, is a great way to amplify the absurdity of lies that continue to replace facts and science when legislating reproductive health. Plus-- Who knew a uterus made of hot pink marshmallows could be an educational tool?

Explains Dr. Willie Parker, "Dr. MLK once said that when issues are really important, sometimes you have to laugh the truth into people. That's why I'm involved with the comedic genius of LPJL as we bust a few 'alternative facts' about the safety of abortion, a process that one in three US women experience by age 45. Abortion is safe. BAM! Myth busted!"

This video comes out at a time when the war on abortion rights has been refueled and is most extreme particularly with appointments like Neil Gorsuch and now Charmaine Yoest, the leader of abortion mythology, to Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). MythCrashers debunks the kind of scary, far flung lies promoted by Yoest. As President and CEO of Americans United For Life, she was the architect of almost every piece of anti abortion legislation passed on a state level in the last decade...

MORE ABOUT LADY PARTS JUSTICE LEAGUE: Founded in 2015 by Daily Show Co-Creator Lizz Winstead, Lady Parts Justice League infuses humor into reproductive rights spaces while also dropping some knowledge and activism into our pop culture and social lives, inspiring folks who have not been active in the feminist and reproductive rights movements to get on board. A rapid response creative production team made up of comedians, writers, and activists, The League is on call 24/7 producing videos, artistic memes and creating national actions that respond instantly to the breaking news surrounding reproductive rights issues.

Part of LPJL's mission is to support and raise awareness about independent abortion providers who bear the brunt of anti-abortion legislation and harassment. Several times a year, the League goes on the road to perform comedy shows in a USO format bringing entertainment and love to these clinics and their communities. They also provide elbow grease at the clinics themselves, including anything from bringing lunch to building a fence to planting bushes to block protesters. Understanding that reproductive rights issues vary by race, class, and gender identity, Lady Parts Justice League is committed to diversity by creating content that fosters a multicultural, inclusive experience within the reproductive rights movement.
