BRENDA LEE EAGER, the legendary American soul singer, songwriter and recording artist who is best known for her chart topping performances of pop songs like "Ain't Understanding Mellow," "Close To You" and "Somebody's Somebody," has just been added to the lineup of Blues performers who will shake it up on Labor Day Weekend at the 1st Annual Southern California MADCatfish Blues Festival La Qu?tta M. Shamblee, Producer of the event announced today. "Brenda Lee Eager will appear as a singer with the Yu Ooko Band on Saturday, September 5th as part of the two-day Blues Festival," Shamblee said.
Brenda Lee Eager and singer Jerry Butler recorded several singles, the first of which, "Ain't Understanding Mellow," reached #3 on the Billboard R&B chart and #21 on the Hot 100. The song sold over one million copies and was awarded a Gold Disc by the Recording Industry Association of America. Their duet version of "(They Long to Be) Close To You" was rated #6 on the R&B chart and #91 on the pop chart in 1972. Eager found her voice at the tender age of three when she began singing in church in her hometown of Lower Peachtree, AL.
