Rising French duo Her's HerTape #2 is available now-listen here. The band, composed of Victor Solf and Simon Carpentier, premieres the video for their latest single, "SWIM," today via NYLON. Of Her, NYLON says, "the duo whips up sensual R&B tunes that are dripping with lust, sweat, and passion." Watch and share the "SWIM" video here.
Solf and Carpentier are the vocalists, songwriters, producers and multi-instrumentalists behind Her. Her Tape #2, the follow-up to the band's critically acclaimed tape, HerTape #1, is a continuation of their exploration of women, love, relationships and feminism. In the six-track tape, the pair examines maternal love between a mother and child and physical love between partners.
The "SWIM" video explores the idea of a modern-day Joan of Arc. The band was inspired by current acts of protests, like the international Women's Marches, to create a video representing strong, powerful and timeless women. The video for "SWIM" was directed by Liswaya, former Artistic Director for Dior, Louis Vuitton, Cartier and more, and features French actress Diane Rouxel (The Smell of Us, La tête haute).
Of "SWIM," Solf says, "Swimming against the tide and walking against the flow means encouraging difference. We're living in troubled times marked by renewed violence, social regression and the rise of extremism. As artists, we wanted to put across a positive message, encouraging people to think differently and accept their own and others' uniqueness."
Solf and Carpentier, natives of Germany and France, respectively, met while attending high school in France and formed the duo Her a few years later. Her wrote, produced and self-released their debut single, "Quite Like," on SoundCloud in 2015. It attracted an international audience, as listeners were drawn to the mysterious voices behind the track. In 2016, the duo released Her Tape #1, which has garnered over 6 million streams to date. Her quickly became a global success and performed sold out tours and festivals in Europe, the U.K. and the United States. Her's "Five Minutes" is featured in Apple's "Shot on iPhone" campaign-watch here. Further music from Her is set for release this year. The band will play select North American dates this summer.
