The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park presents the male chorus, Chanticleer, at Rollins College April 15 at 3 PM. Based in San Francisco, Chanticleer is known for the blend of its twelve male voices and original interpretations of vocal literature.

Chanticleer will be performing its Love Story program, featuring songs that explore humankind’s emotion with a wide variety of selections, including works by Richard Strauss and Eric Whitacre and a new composition by Stephen Paulus commissioned for Chanticleer, The Lotus Lovers.

Currently in its 34th season, Chanticleer focuses on presenting choral music and encouraging worldwide appreciation for the art of ensemble singing through live performances, education, recording, and the creation of new choral works.

Named for the “clear-singing” rooster in Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, Chanticleer was founded in 1978 by tenor Louis Botto. Since then more than 100 men have sung in the ensemble.

With more than 100 scheduled performances, Chanticleer’s engagements during the 2011–2012 season include concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall, New York’s Metropolitan Musuem of Art, and a summer trip to Europe encompassing several festivals such as Edinburgh, La Chaise Dieu, Bremen, and others.

With the help of individual contributions and foundation and corporate support, Chanticleer involves over 5,000 young people annually in the ensemble’s extensive education program. In 2012 Chanticleer’s education program was recognized by the Chorus America Education Outreach Award.
