Madeira Wine shares the name of Madeira, a small island in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Portugal. The landscape of Madeira is considered a gift from nature with a continuum and symbiosis between sea and forest, mountains and valleys. The slopes of the island have become the site of vineyards producing high quality grapes that yield exceptional wines. These distinctive fortified wines are produced in styles that can be consumed on their own, with meals or as an aperitif.

There are many stories about Madeira Wine throughout the five centuries of their existence. The wines have captured the attention and appreciation of famous people that include William Shakespeare, George Washington, and Winston Churchill. It is interesting to note that three of the Founding Fathers, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson were great connoisseurs of Madeira Wine. In fact, the Declaration of Independence was celebrated with Madeira Wine.

There are four classifications of Madeira Wine depending on the degree of sweetness. They include Dry (Sercial), Medium Dry (Verdelho), Medium Rich (Boal), and Rich (Malvasia). Within these categories, there are two major groups, the blended wines with an indication of age and the wines that indicate the year of the harvest.

Experience Madeira Wines. Their varieties are satisfying for wine lovers and provide a true taste of history.
