This wonderful homage to American vaudeville barely contains the bedlam of the wise-cracking servant Truffaldino as he confuses everyone around him while moonlighting for two employers.
Our mission: Opening doors to classical plays for audiences of all ages, through intimate, daring productions.
Founded: 1991 (as Seattle Shakespeare Festival)
Season: Year-round
In our indoor home at the Center House Theatre at Seattle Center we produce three plays by Shakespeare, one classic, and one contemporary play based on classic themes or in the classic style. During the summer we produce two free outdoor productions that tour to parks in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. We also produce a touring show for schools and other venues and have innovative education programs that include workshops, residencies, classes, and summer camps.
Budget Size:
$1.2 Million in 2008-2009 (operating with balanced budgets since 2001)
The plays of William Shakespeare and other classic playwrights are timeless works that cross social and cultural boundaries. With their rich themes and wide gallery of characters, these plays examine the full breadth of human experience: love, jealousy, loyalty, leadership, passion, vengeance, romance, ambition, and humor. Within these time-tested works are insights that continue to sing to contemporary audiences, and that is why we believe our region deserves a theatre committed to first-rate, professional productions of Shakespeare and the classics.
