On July 2nd, acclaimed authors Don Wallace and Dani Shapiro will be in conversation about Don's memoir THE FRENCH HOUSE at the Strand Book Store. In this warm, heartfelt memoir, Don shares the story of his family's time on Belle-Ile, a small island off the coast of Brittany, and living in a home that sounds quite similar to the one featured into the popular Tom Hanks film, The Money Pit.

About Don Wallace: Don Wallace is an award-winning writer whose work has appeared in Harper's, The New York Times, and dozens of other publications. A graduate of the Iowa Writers Workshop, he is the Michener Prize-winning author of the books Hot Water, One Great Game, Log of Matthew Roving and The French House.

Don Wallace and his family leaped at the chance to buy a French farmhouse on a remote island. But when they arrived, they discovered they the house was in ruin, and quickly their countryside idyll took a troubling turn. They struggled with not only a foreign country, but a crumbling abode, cranky neighbors, and a failing stock market. Despite it all, the French house eventually turned out to be a true home, and the Wallaces, undaunted by the odds came to love it and the village around them.

Don will speak with Dani Shapiro, the bestselling author of Slow Motion, Devotion and most recently,Still Writing.
