Beginning in the 1950s, the U.S. government went into a moral panic over the homosexual menace" a stunning straw man erected in the era of McCarthyism, when queers and Communists were considered a subversive threat seducing unsuspecting Americans into a life of moral decadence. This panic was known as "The Lavender Scare." But in an era of Pete Buttigiegs, gay Bachelors and Pride-themed FBI logos, perhaps the straights have become too comfortable. It's time for a new homosexual menace to terrorize the moral center of our country. The Lavender Scare is an irreverent exploration of LGBTQIA history, much of which has been summarily douched from the annals of history, hosted by Gabe Gonzlez. Each show features three guest comedians whose perspectives inevitably show us how these histories and shared community experiences reverberate into our present. We'll see performances, play a few games and the evening culminates in a queer trivia face-off between our guest comedians and three audience members.Host Bio: Gabe Gonzlez is a Puerto Rican comedian, writer and actor living in Brooklyn, NY.
