Karen Wong, Deputy Director of the New Museum will present on the Future of Culture. As cultural production expands and innovates, how will musicians absorb and incorporate these current attitudes of hybridity and immersion into their shows, recitals, and concerts? No matter the framing device, be it a stage or headset, we are increasingly obsessed with an experience that immerses us. As audiences shift from observer to active participant, there will be new platforms in theater, music, and visual arts. More than ever, musicians will require fluency in future-leaning formats and the vehicles that amplify and distribute emergent culture.

April 15, 2022 National Sawdust brings the celebration home to its intimate performance space with a Gala Series celebrating the National Sawdust belief that artistic and musical expression helps us all create a more joyful and just world. The National Sawdust Gala Series raises needed financial support specifically designated for its professional development and mentorship work including its Artist-In-Residence program and the Hildegard Competition, our mentorship initiative highlighting outstanding female and nonbinary composers in the early stages of their careers.
National Sawdust Hosts The Future Is… Festival and Creative Forum
April 07, 2022 Both before and throughout the pandemic, National Sawdust’s mission has been to provide artists with financial and creative opportunities, audiences with access to groundbreaking work presented in remarkably high fidelity, and to support young creators by means of a rigorous mentorship network. These three goals serve as the inspirations for The Future Is… Festival, which takes place June 7 through June 16, features work by 6 composers and choreographers developing new work through residencies co-produced with the Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU, and funded by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.

November 30, 2020 In unprecedented times, fast-evolving models and new ways of thinking are necessary. Thus far into the COVID-19 pandemic, National Sawdust has responded by creating the 40+ performance Digital Discovery Festival, serving and compensating over 120 artists, and is now proud to present the performance stage of its inaugural New Works Commission (NWC).
