16th Annual ANIMATION BLOCK PARTY Announced At BAM, September 27- October 2, 2019

From Friday, September 20 through Sunday, September 22, BAM presents the 16th annual Animation Block Party, a thrillingly diverse three-day program of animated shorts and keynote feature films of all genres and styles, showcasing the world's best independent, professional, and student animation.

The series begins with Amp Wong and Zhao Ji's animated feature White Snake (2019), a sumptuous prequel to one of the most ancient and enduring stories in Chinese history, full of trickster demons, deadly mythical beasts, assassins, wuxia action, and the promise of eternal love. Other feature-length films include Bill Melendez and Phil Roman's Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don't Come Back!!) (1980), the final, traditionally animated Peanuts film from the Bill Melendez studio, and The Bugs Bunny/Road-Runner Movie (Jones & Monroe, 1979), a 35mm print of the 40-year-old classic Warner Brothers cartoon compilation.

Shorts collections in the series include Narrative Works, Independents, Local Filmmakers, an eclectic program of animated films by East Coast artists; International Shorts, a diverse collection of award-winning international short films; Female Animators, a selection of shorts from the world's top female filmmakers, co-presented by Columbus, Ohio-based art zine collective Malt Adult; Animation for Kids, a new edition of the popular family-friendly shorts program; Animated Student Films, featuring some of the strongest student work of the year; and Experimental Films, Graphic Design, and Music Videos, a showcase of the year's most design-centric non-narrative works.
