Queensland Youth Symphony (QYO) perform a romanic concert inspired by true love and sumptuious melodies.

Opening the concert is the premiere of a new work, in the style of a tone poem, by one of Australia’s finest composers, Carl Vine. In addition to his highly acclaimed work as a composer, Carl is the Artistic Director of the Huntington Estate Music Festival and Musica Viva Australia.

QYO will then perform an audience favourite, Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto – rated third most popular piano concerto as voted by listeners on the ABC’s Classic 100 list. Its grand orchestral opening, romantic melodies and rhapsodic episodes continue to thrill audiences throughout the world. The soloist is the 22 year old Quang Hong Luu, winner of Brisbane’s international Lev Vlassenko competition in 2012.

After interval, the wonderful second suite of Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet ballet music includes Montagues and Capulets, The child Juliet, Friar Laurence, Romeo and Juliet before Parting, Dance of the Girls with Lilies and Romeo at Juliet's Grave.
