BWW Previews: With Unpublished Text by Miguel Falabella, O SOM E A SILABA Opens at Teatro Porto Seguro

The musical O Som e a Silaba (The Sound and the Syllable) opens at Teatro Porto Seguro on October 6 and runs until November 26, with sessions from Friday to Sunday. With text and direction by Miguel Falabella, the musical was conceived especially for Alessandra Maestrini and Mirna Rubim, two actress singers with lyrical record. The show tells the story of Sarah Leighton (Alessandra Maestrini), a young woman diagnosed with highly functional autism, a savant, with specific skills in some areas, including music, and her relationship with Leonor Delise (Mirna Rubim), her teacher of singing.

Silmara (Vanessa Gerbelli) is paying for a crime she claims she has not committed and singer-songwriter Diana (Alessandra Verney) is accused by her husband of attempted murder.

One of the most influential movements of Brazilian popular music, which has revealed great names such as Vinicius de Moraes, Tom Jobim and Joao Gilberto, gives the rhythm to the musical 'Garota De Ipanema, O Musical Da Bossa Nova', which premieres September 22 Teatro Opus, at Shopping Villa Lobos, in Sao Paulo. The show has stories and images that represent the whole history of Bossa Nova and its importance for Brazilian music. Project of Aventura Entertainment, directed by Sergio Modena and musical direction by Delia Fischer, brings great names of the musical scene.

Now in Sao Paulo! The soap opera Vamp, a horror comedy that marked a whole generation in the 1990s and until today is considered cult by the legion of fans it left, was adapted for the theater by Aventura Entretenimento. After a successful season in Rio de Janeiro, the musical debuts on September 15 in Sao Paulo, at Teatro Sergio Cardoso. With conception and general direction by Jorge Fernando and direction by Diego Morais, who directed with Jorge the soap opera Eta Mundo Bom, Vamp, o Musical has in the cast the protagonists of the soap opera, Claudia Ohana and Ney Latorraca.

'My Fair Lady' leads the list with 11 nominations, followed by 'Suassuna - O Auto do Reino do Sol', with ten. The Reverencia Award is the only theatrical prize in Brazil, aimed at musical theater, that includes simultaneously spectacles of the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. The ceremony will be on September 27, in Rio de Janeiro.

Roque Santeiro, by Dias Gomes, premieres on January 27 at Teatro FAAP with musical direction by Zeca Baleiro and scenic direction by Debora Dubois. The play written in 1963 should have been staged in 1965, but was censored by the military government. In 1975, Dias Gomes (1922-1999) adapted the work for television and this version was also prohibited. Only ten years later, in 1985, with the country experiencing a process of democratization, the soap opera was finally broadcasted.
