The James Library & Center for the Arts Will Present Summer Events Series in Norwell
The community arts center and lending library will offer cultural and literary programs.
The James Library & Center for the Arts in Norwell has announced its summer season of music, art, and literary programming, taking place at its location on West Street.
The schedule will include exhibitions, workshops, and community events designed to engage audiences of all ages, with programming held in the library’s concert hall, gallery, and public spaces.
EXHIBITION: MADELEINE LORD
Friday, May 1 through Saturday, June 13
Opening Reception: Friday, May 1, 6 to 8 pm
Admission is free, on view during business hours
Enjoy large woodblock prints in a solo exhibition by artist Madeleine Lord, inspired by instruments and the musicians that play them. Lord’s work spans multiple disciplines, including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and sculpture.
SCOTT KETCHAM: THE WILD IRIS – PAINTINGS INSPIRED BY THE POETRY OF LOUISE GLÜCK
Friday, May 8 through Saturday, June 13
Opening Reception: Friday, May 8, 6 to 8 pm
Admission is free, on view during business hours
Artist Scott Ketcham presents a collection of paintings inspired by the poetry of Louise Glück. Ketcham is a professor of visual arts at Massasoit Community College and has exhibited widely over a 30-year career.
ELLIS ISLAND AND GENEALOGY RESEARCH WITH SEEMA KENNEY
Tuesday, May 12, 1 to 3 pm
Admission: $10
Genealogist Seema Kenney will present a program on the history of Ellis Island, immigration legislation, and research methods for tracing family history.
CHILDREN’S STORYTIME
Fridays, May 29 through June 26, 11:30 am to 12 noon
Admission is free
This weekly program offers reading sessions for toddlers and caregivers in the library’s children’s room.
ART UNPLUGGED: OFF THE GRID, ON THE WALL WITH THE SPARE STUDIO
Saturday, May 30, 2 to 4 pm
Admission is free; reservation required
Participants will learn paper-making techniques using recycled materials and create artwork to be displayed at the library. The program is open to all ages.
JAMES BOOK CLUB: AN UNFINISHED LOVE STORY – A PERSONAL HISTORY OF THE 60’S
Wednesday, June 10, 7 to 8:30 pm
Admission is free
The James Library Book Club will meet to discuss An Unfinished Love Story, with participation open to interested readers.
ART UNPLUGGED: PAPER LANTERNS
Saturday, June 13, 4 to 6 pm
Admission is free; reservation required
Led by Liz Helfer, this session will focus on creating bamboo and paper lanterns as part of the Art Unplugged series.

Painter Daniel Lloyd-Miller presents a collection of works exploring seasonal themes through both studio and plein-air approaches.
