The Ogunquit Playhouse is pleased to announce the world premiere of a brand new children's musical production based on the award-winning, critically acclaimed children's book series, "Fairy Houses," written and illustrated by Tracy Kane. "We're very excited to be able to bring the extraordinary talents of so many gifted people to collaborate on this special project," notes Artistic Director Brad Kenney.

Winner of numerous awards including The American Library Association's "Top 10" Children's Book Sense and Parent's Choice Gold Award, the "Fairy Houses" Series is being written into a musical under the pen of well-known playwright, Jack Neary. Neary, who resides in the Boston area, holds a B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts, and an M.F.A. from Smith College. His plays, which include, First Night, To Forgive, Divine, and Jerry Finnegan's Sister, have been produced at many venues across the country.

"The Playhouse Children's Theatre program, under Education Director, Gina Brannagan Connolly, will bring the story to life on the Playhouse stage in August. The Playhouse children's theatre program, which began in 2000 with just 25 students in one camp session, has grown each year and now includes theatre training camps for students of all ages. The Rising Stars camp offers introductory lessons to students kindergarten through second grade; The Junior Players is geared toward students age 8-14, while the Teen Showcase offers advanced lessons for students 14-18 years of age. The Playhouse Saturday Kid's Korner series features the students in the Junior Players camps, live on the main stage on Saturdays. For this special world premiere these Junior Players will bring the world premiere of Fairy Houses, The Musical to the stage on Saturday, August 11 at 10 AM and Noon. A special Sunday performance is also scheduled for Noon on Sunday, August 12," state press notes.

"The wonderful 'Fairy Houses' stories created by Tracy Kane combined with the phenomenal talents of playwright, Jack Neary, and musical director, Ken Clifton, will produce a truly magic and memorable show for children of all ages," continues Kenney.

"Adding to the fun, the Ogunquit Playhouse Theatre Guild will sponsor a Fairy House Weekend on the grounds of the Playhouse and Colony campus, inviting local artists and organizations such as the Ogunquit Art Association, local schools, landscape architects, florists and girl scouts, to participate, turning the world premier of Fairy Houses, The Musical into a weekend-long event for the entire family. Children and families will be able to attend the show, tour the grounds and build their own fairy houses. "We're very fortunate to have our dedicated Theatre Guild sponsoring the magical fairy house village and tours on the campus of the Playhouse" states Kenney, "This is the sort of event that highlights their dedication to the Playhouse and the community."

The Fairy House Tours are scheduled for Saturday, August 11, 2007, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Show times are Saturday at 10:00 AM and Noon. Tickets for the performance are $9.00, Fairy House tour tickets are $8.00 and a special combo ticket will be available at $15.00. Free parking is available throughout the weekend.
