Ivan Rutherford to Lead LES MISERABLES at Reagle Music Theatre; Full Cast Announced

Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston brings its triumphant 45th anniversary season to a close August 8-18 with Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schönberg and Herbert Kretzmer's revolutionary pop opera, LES MISERABLES. The winner of nine Tony Awards (including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score), this international sensation - seen in 42 countries by more than 65 million people - is the longest-running musical in the world.

Reagle Music Theatre is mounting an all-new production of this sumptuous and exciting classic with bold new direction and choreography by Broadway's David Hugo. Acclaimed Broadway tenor Ivan Rutherford, who has performed the role of Jean Valjean more than 2000 times on Broadway and on tour, stars. Also in the cast are noted Broadway vocal coach Doug Jabara (Reagle's Oklahoma!, Into the Woods) as Javert and Tony Award nominee and Theatre World Award winner Maureen Brennan (Broadway's Candide, New York Shakespeare Festival's Pirates of Penzance) as Mme. Thénardier.

IRNE Award winner Dan Rodriguez is music director and IRNE Award winner Jeffrey P. Leonard conducts. Scenic design is by Robert Klingelhoefer of Maine State Music Theatre and the Fulton Theatre. Lighting design is by Elliot Norton Award winner David Wilson. Costumes are by Kansas City Costumes.

Based on the epic novel by Victor Hugo and set against events leading up to the June Revolution in early 19th century France, LES MISERABLES presents in a magnificent sung-through score the story of Jean Valjean's unjust imprisonment and life-long struggle for redemption despite being pursued relentlessly by the obsessed police inspector Javert. Songs include the unforgettable "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Stars," "One Day More," and "Bring Him Home." Recently made into a record-breaking movie musical nominated for eight Academy Awards including best motion picture, LES MISERABLES has endured as perhaps the most popular musical of all time.

"This season we've finally been able to get the rights and assemble the team to make our dream a reality. We couldn't be happier to have two noted Broadway veterans with us for this journey. Ivan Rutherford is a splendid and heart-breaking Valjean, and David Hugo will bring all of the power and soul of this magnificent story to life in an all-new staging created specifically for Reagle Music Theatre. Also in the cast of 42 are Angela Richardson as Fantine; Kathryn McKellar as Cosette; Mara Wilson as Éponine; Ross Brown as Marius; David Carney as Enjolras; Rick Sherburne as Thénardier; Danny Harrington as Gavroche; and Emma Schaufus and Eowyn Young alternating as Young Cosette/Young Éponine. The male ensemble includes Brad Reinking, Christopher Brindley, Christopher A. King, Daniel Forest Sullivan, Jacob Sherburne, James Forbes Sheehan, Jean-Alfred Chavier, Kelton Washington, Matt Phillipps, Michael Anthony Russo, Miles Henry Petrie, Peter Mill, Phil Tayler, Rishi Basu, Sean Harrington, Serge Clivio, Terry Donilon,Zach McGrath, and Zaven Ovian. The female ensemble includes Allegra Borak, Eva Rae Costanza, IsaBelle Miller, Kami Rushell Smith, Kelly Naugler, Maritza Bostic,Megan Kip, Meryl Galaid, Regina Lucas, Susan Conkey, and Valeska Cambron.

Performances of LES MISERABLES are August 8, 10-11 and 18 at 2 p.m.; and August 9 and 15-17 at 7:30 p.m. Press performance is Friday, August 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $57, $49, $42 and $35 for adults. Seniors 60+ receive $3 off. Youths 5-18 are $25.
