Hello there... I went to see TABOO last night (prior to knowing it was closing). I was in the city and got 50% off tickets, so that was a plus. I knew it was in trouble (not that it would take a rocket scientist to get that one) when we got tickets 4 hours prior to curtain and they were 5th row center. Anyway, I saw many understudies. Boy George was out, as was Liz McCartney and Sarah Uriarte Berry. But I have to say... it wasn't bad. I expected piss and horror on that stage, only because of all the negative feedback I've been privy to. They should just have called it "The Boy George Story", rather than making it out to be like Side Show ("where 'in here' everyone is normal"). There were book flaws, but I thought the music was very enjoyable, and the voices on that stage were fabulous.
I had tried my hand at Wicked, just for the hell of it, and they only had seats in the rear Balcony... so I held off. But here's a question: The "Theatre Hall of Fame" is in that theatre. Do you have to have a ticket for whatever may be playing there to visit it?? It seems to be upstairs, and it was all roped off with a very scary lady manning a makeshift security desk... I'm sure it's just some pictures and that's it, but I'd be intererested to check it out.
ALso, to kill time, went to Madame Taussauds - the wax museum... very fun. There's a Producers display with Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane. It's scary how life like those things are. If you have some cash to throw away - go for it.
And, you can have your picture taken with the Incredible Hulk (like you'll find in Seany's pictures - - in the link to the left). Oh, and to Broadwayguy2: In Taboo... yeah, you see a little bit of Cary Shields in his underwear, but nothing exciting. He just then hops into bed - doesn't even take off his shirt!
And finally back to Wicked... Listening to the recording on the way home, does anyone else think Alice and Emily (I know, they don't HAVE to be in a show together but...) would sound great as Elphaba and Glinda (respectively)?
That's my thoughts on NY... thanks for reading. Updated On: 1/14/04 at 12:51 PM

Access to the Theatre Hall of Fame is included with the price of a ticket, so yes, you do have to be seeing a show in order to tour the hall. It is mostly pictures and a huge wall with the engraved names in it. It's nothing especially spectacular, but important nonetheless. In my opinion it is really awesome to be able to look up at the wall and see the names Ethel Merman, George Abbott, Bernadette Peters, Mary Martin, Joel Grey, Nancy Walker, Leonard Bernstein, and SO many others' names in big gold lettering. But maybe that's just me. And here's another question: is Liz McCartney technically back from her maternity leave or is the understudy now playing the role throughout the run?
