It's the best event of the year (in my opinion) and it doesn't cost anything to get in. You can browse all day for free if you want. It's usually about the last weekend in Sept and most shows participate, selling anything from props and costume pieces to merchandise to anything the cast brings in to sell. They also have the autograph table every hour.

It's only February, but as it gets a lot closer there will be more information.

The date varies a little bit every year, but it's in late September. It doesn't cost anything just to go, but you pay for photos, autographs, etc., and obviously whatever you buy. Which shows are represented obviously varies from year to year, as well.

BCEFA does have an e-bay site where they sell items year round. They do put up special items around September in light of the flea market.

It'll most likely be on September 20th or 27th this year.

This is a useless post. I just wanted to share my love for this event.

Probably a dumb question, but do any of the tables accept credit/debit cards?

"No, the tables are cash only."

Untrue. If you want to pay by card you have to have to scanned at a special table where volunteers sit with a wireless credit card machine. A volunteer at the show's table will give you a slip with the amount on it. You, then, take it to the credit card table where they will scan your card and stamp your slip. You take the slip back to the show's table and exchange it for your item. It is extra steps but if you're someone who doesn't like to carry a lot of cash it good to have. It's also good for higher priced items. You can use your receipt as proof when it comes time to file your taxes because it can be considered a donation and BC/EFA is tax deductible. I did it last year when I bought a marquee.

I am bummed I cannot go this year. But it is for a good reason - my friend is doing a show, and I have tickets for that day. I wish this was a semi-annual event! It always came at a bad time of year for me.

You're welcome.

My personal preference is to pay cash for anything $10 or under and to use card for anything more expensive. The marquee I made reference to cost me $50 so, to me, that was worth putting on my card because a) it would leave me more cash for the photo booth and b) it's worth having profile for tax filing reasons.

Eris, where did you put your marquee, if I may ask?

I always wonder what people do with the huge things they buy, like the doors and marquees and stuff.

I, actually, shipped it to Alabama. A friend of mine adores a particular actor and her birthday was coming up. I had intended on getting her something at flea market and when I saw the marquee with his picture on it I knew what I had to do. She has it leaned up against the wall in her living room.

I have one; it's not really a "marquee," but it's a big sign from outside one of the theaters. It isn't enormous... it's a little under five feet tall. I have it leaning up against a wall in my apartment, too. I don't know what people do with the legitimately huge things, like actual marquees.

Eris, that's so awesome! I'm kind of glad I have no room for anything huge, so I don't buy it. Not to mention what a hassle it'd be getting it home! I'm sure I'd confuse or annoy a lot of people as I made my way back to Jersey.

Yeah, I also could not take really huge stuff like that either. I think people would kill me on the subway first, and then the train. It would also be difficult to bring that stuff into a theater as well, unless there is a coat check area or something.

What I bought isn't THE actual marquee but a picture of the actor that hung outside the theatre. When I bought it I didn't realize how heavy it was going to be. I actually thought it was something that I could roll up. Boy, was I wrong. I bought it first thing in the morning and they marked it sold and said I could leave it there until I was ready to leave. So, I went through the whole day and went to get the marquee after dinner. I carried it from 44th Street to Penn Station. People laughed and looked at me and when I was right outside Penn Station someone offered to help. I laughed and said "Where were you ten blocks ago?" Once inside the station I struck up a conversation with a nice couple who were holding playbills from a show I hadn't seen yet. They were getting on the same train as me so the gentleman offered to carry the marquee onto the train for me. As luck would have it we got one of the new double-decker trains. We sat in one of the groups of four seats and put the marquee in the aisle and held so it it was like a door into our seats and it didn't block anyone else. They got off the stop before me so I was on my own getting it off the train. Before we got to my stop I moved into the wider area were the bicycle racks are and the conductor started calling me stupid for bringing my "art project" on the train. I just ignored her. How was it her business? The biggest issue was, actually, getting it into my car. I knew my back seats folded down but couldn't remember how to do it. I, eventually, figured it out and got it in my car. A few days later I took it to UPS and shipped it to Alabama. Cost me more than a $100 but the expense and the hassle were all worth it when she called me and I could hear the shock and the tears in her voice.

Well, it's not like you have to carry it around all day, or with you if you go to lunch or to see a show in the afternoon or something. The tables will hold things like that until you're ready to go home. Getting it home can be an issue, particularly if you don't live here. I took mine on the subway, and it was not an experience I wish to repeat (someone offered me a ton of cash for it on the way home, actually, heh)! It does fit in the back seat of a car, though. Mine was a very special case. Buying stuff like that isn't something I will make a habit of doing, but this was very right.

That's good to know that they'll hold larger items. Now that I think of it, I really don't have any space in my bedroom anyway. I know my parents would not appreciate something like that in the living room either.

Per Seth's Chatterbox website:

Come to the Broadway Fleamarket on 9/27 in Shubert Alley
New DVD's will be available!

Last year I emailed asking for a list of what will be available and didn't get a response. I know some people had gone looking for particular episodes only to be disappointed (I was one of them). I'm going to try emailing again this year.
