...Let us Share...

I must admit, when I first heard "August: Osage County", I thought it was a western.

The first time I heard Gypsy, I thought it was literally about Gypsies.

Parade, but I think that's the point.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

CATS

but seriously folks,
Speed the Plow
The Boy from Oz, I thought it was another show about The Wizard of Oz

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

One more I thought all my sons was based off the soap opera

Coast of Utopia with the subtitles Voyage, Shipwreck and Salvage made me positive it was going to be a long epic about a bunch of people on a ship.

And yet I bought tickets anyway.

rwelvin, I thought the same too.

It seems plays are finding their way into this thread a lot more than musicals

I used to think "Guys and Dolls" was about a bunch of guys who played with dolls-- like, Barbie dolls.

This isn't exactly 'misleading,' but I didn't get into Les Miserables until I was in tenth grade because I assumed until then that the entire musical was in French.

The Full Monty. You never really saw it unless the lights malfunctioned.

^ Ha, I found The Full Monty misleading as well, only it was because I've always associated 'Monty' with 'Python.' Turns out it's not quite Spamalot...

Simple: CAROLINE, OR CHANGE. That title alone helped kill any interest in it, including that unwelcoming and unappealing artwork.

I thought this thread would be about BWW misleading thread titles. So, because you misled me, this thread falls under that
cattagory.

Mmm. I love Caroline, or Change. The title works for me and I thought the poster was servicable. I suppose it could have been more exciting, but that would have been misleading.

Oh, that's not what Coast of Utopia was about?...then I guess put that on the list.

I almost forgot, when I first heard of the play All My Sons I thought that 60's sitcom My Three Sons was a TV show based off of it (like The Odd Couple) and that the show must be a comedy.

I don't think Caroline, or Change isn't misleading as much as it's confusing, but once you hear the synopsis it becomes clear. Same thing with Urinetown.

Sweeny Todd sans subtitle...when I was little I thought it was about some flapper girl in the 20's. Not really sure why.

Zombie Prom. You know, you go in thinking it's going to be some deep, introspective psychodrama about the human condition, but... nope. It's about a zombie prom. What gives?

Well, it seems the creative team of CAROLINE, OR CHANGE agreed with me and changed the show's logo for the post-Broadway run in Los Angeles. Its amazing how much more appealing the show's title becomes by simply making Caroline smile.

Speed the Plow- I thought it was some boring farm set show.

EVERYONE I know who hasn't sene the show reads my Light in the Piazza t-shirt as "the light in the pizza." It's almost universal.

Shrek. :)

But actually, being regretfully unfamiliar with ABBA when I was younger, I thought Mamma Mia! had something to do with Italy...
