Saw that rectangular "Nederlander Theatre" marquee being taken down today. I don't mean just the plastic piece that said "Rent". The whole thing was taken off of the front of the building. The metalwork on the facade also looks like its being stripped down and redone. Anyone know what's happening inside?

I happened to walk by there today, and there were signs posted in the door windows saying that the theatre was being remodeled. (Or maybe it was renovated - I can't remember the exact word).

The building was being stripped!

Will be interesting to watch what happens.

Perhaps I am not making myself clear. When the Shubert-owned Longacre Theatre was renovated, certain details of the renovation were actually announced. A new pit was going in, the entire bottom of the theatre was excavated to create a new lounge area, the theatre got new seating and a total physical makeover etc.

While I'm completely aware that work is happening at the Nederlander, the Nederlander Organization hasn't actually said or announced anything. Some sketchy details have been mentioned here, but nothing concrete. I'm seeking more information on the actual renovation work.

See? Now that was worth asking the question for, wasn't it? Thank you Mr. Bundles.

Smaxie you are by far the most normal person on this board!
As I'v said before, I so admire your postings.

Smaxie, thank you so much for asking. I am glad to know how it is coming along.

I don't understand the need for all those rude posts. All you did was ask a very sensible question.

I'm just happy to see that the Nederlander is keeping the place, and is seemingly committed to keeping it a Broadway house, instead of another condo!

Why would the Nederlanders turn one of their theatres into a condo?

Much less the one that's NAMED after them.

That stage looks so much smaller in that shot, unless that brick wall isnt the actual back wall

Justin D, the brick wall that you saw in the set of Rent is actually the back wall of the stage. It is hard for me not to look at the wall and not think of Rent.

Songanddanceman, The Nederlander has actually been known to house more plays then musicals because the theatre is sort of on the small side to house the average musical.

Great photos...I love the shot taken from the loading dock stage left...you can even see what looks like the fire curtain (it looks like an Austrian curtain too!)

Shame they can't make a bigger stage area, it has a great auditorium and a lovely steep balcony.

I remember the stage looked really big to me when Our Country's Good played there. It doesn't have a huge amount of wing space, but then again, the Richard Rodgers has almost no wing space, and they manage to make musicals work in there.
