For those of you who have been to shows recently, please let me know if you were allowed/encouraged to bring drinks to your seats, and where?

Recently, I saw Young Frankenstein and Spring Awakening, and I know that they were both encouraging drinks to be taken to your seats. I seem to recall people drinking at their seats at August: Osage County and Boeing-Boeing, but I'm not totally sure.

Help me with a little research! Regional theatre, BW, Off-BW... Let me know! :)

I'm pretty sure in Vegas you can actually have a hooker at your seat.

They were allowed at your seat at Times They Are A'Changin.

I don't think I need to say anything else about that.

Actors Theater here in Louisville, KY does not allow drinks.
The only times they have was when they did the musical Ain't Misbehavin' and the theater was sett up like a club, and when they did Hedwig, for the same reason.

For the record, I drank at both of those.

when I went to see legally blonde i bought a 10$ drink that was about 3 oz it seemed lol and they wouldn't let me bring it to my seat. I had to chug the drink because the show was going to start in a few minutes. Was not to happy about that but what are you gonna do lol

I kinda like the buzz I get from drinking a beer really quick before going to my seat.

I am sure The Longacre doesn't allow drinks to your seat, but they do allow candy. Wrappers are far more annoying than drinks, but I get how they can't risk having it spilled on the seats. They shouldn't allow either.

West End theatres pretty much all allow you to take drinks into the auditorium, but they won't let you take glass in. They give you plastic cups if you're taking your bar drink in. Very elegant!

Personally, the only time you'll find me with a drink in an auditorium is if I have a cough and need a bottle of water to maintain everyone's sanity. Theatre bars are pricey!

I recall seeing Hairspray souvenir cups brought to seats when I was there.

It reminds me that decorum in the theatre is dead, but the wicked cups are cute.

For what they charge, they should have a waiter bring them to your seat.

All Nederlander houses allow audience members to bring food and drink back to their seats.

I only ever remember at Rent where you allowed to take alcoholic drinks back to your seat. All the rest you could take water and soda but no alcoholic drinks. I would never buy a drink anyway since they charge you $4 for a bottle of water. I don't even want to know what a beer or mixed drink costs. I usually sneak my own water or soda in anyway re: Quick Poll: Drinks at your seat at the theatre?.

Regional - The North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, MA does not allow food or drinks in your seat, though they sell plenty of them during intermission. (They also sell some pretty good frozen fruit bars, too!)

I have to say that while I agree with Weez re: the non-elegance of bringing plastic cups into the West End, it's good for business (people aren't rushed for drinks) and audiences in the UK generally behave themselves and throw out their cups on the way out. I don't even mind the little ice creams because they're quiet (if overpriced - I just run to the corner shop during the interval).

The bags of Quality Street though? FAIL. Quiet snacks, people. Quiet.

Also, I don't care if they use c****nay vinegar to coat them, it doesn't change the fact that they're selling crisps at Phantom.

That's so cute.
