I was a little disappointed at the production for The Little Mermaid. After promoting the thing at every commercial break, the song was clipped! I felt the Rent segment was rushed as well and those were the two segments I was looking forward to!

Well, Young Frankenstein, Catered Affair, and Little Mermaid were all cut short and presented together due to time constraints. They did mention "musical highlights." And if Rent was rushed, it was a for time reasons as well. If you noticed, the show ended at exactly 11 pm.

Go figure! All other award shows run overtime, ususally. But...Tony's had to be punctual =[

Well, RENT and LITTLE MERMAID weren't nominated, so you should consider yourself lucky you got to see anything from those shows.

Non-nominated shows don't usually perform. This year it happened, but at the expense of Best Book, Best Choreography, and Best Revival of a Play being presented on the telecast.

Someone needs to feed that girl, If TV puts on 10 pounds, she must weigh about 12.
And that tail makes me wince.

I still haven't had a chance to see the show onstage, but all the bits and pieces of the show I've seen on TV that include Boggess, and ESPECIALLY Part of That World, seem to lack the sense of humor that infuses the film. I mean Ashman's lyrics are packed with fun acting opportunities, and all Boggess does with them is stand there with this glazed look in her eyes making her arms look floaty. It's tragic!

Was there supposed to be more from TLM?

Seriously.. I found her embarassingly terrible. She wouldn't pick whether she was going to belt or sing legit. She wasn't acting--at ALL. Her arms looked terrible. AND she kept doing weird diction stuff. My fave was:

What's that word again?
Oh, fee

While her real feet -- which are supposed to be non-existent -- kept visibly stepping forward onto her skates.

I didn't really mind her arm movements so much; she could've done more acting with 'em, I guess, but she was doing a lot of swimming motions with them, which make sense considering she's meant to be a mermaid.

But oh god I WISH she'd belted that last note. She's got a fine mix, but it doesn't work for that note! XP

The performance was awful. It was awkward & I don't think she sang well at all. Honestly, Megan Mullaly (sp?) blew TLM chick & Faith Prince out of the water!

I agree with everything stated. The singing was bad, the costume was worse, and she had little to no stage presence at all. It looked like a girl on YouTube who has seen Amy Adams in Enchanted a few too many times. If this is what The Little Mermaid is like, I'm glad I didn't make the trip to Denver last summer.

This show is a train wreck. It's not a surprise that its Tony performance was just as horrendous.

It's funny, Sierra came across as genuine and endearing the first time I saw her do "Part of Your World" late last year, but she's been playing it on auto-pilot ever since. She's like an arm-flapping machine now. You can call every gesture, head tilt, and facial expression she's going to do at exactly which syllable. It's like Disney replaced her with one of their world-class animatronics.

I think Sierra's a great actress, but her performance last night was terribly dull. All she did was stand there and wave her arms. I really wish they should have done Under The Sea. That number, while it doesn't have the best staging, would have come off better on television.

I'm sure "Under The Sea" would've been preferred, but again, the non-nominated shows were only given aprx 60 seconds. There's no way they could've gotten those columns on and off in that time frame! (you know what I'm talking about... right?)

And MAD PROPS to Mullaly for rocking out her song -- for me, she was the most under-rated part of the Broadway Season.

spencinthecity - good point. Though personally I could do without the towers. They're really nothing but eyesores IMO!

I just watched it again and it was like she was nervous. She performs this much better live, even though I hate the show, her vocals blew me away.

Whoever said she has a good mix, most not know what a mix is.
I've seen her do that song 3 or 4 times and she always go right from chest to head and it always makes me cringe.

she does the arm movements to try and mimic being under water...

she kinda HAS to do that to make it look even remotely authentic, seeing as the the mermaid costume isn't convincing....and the wheelies don't save it.

were they even used last night? i can't remember if she stood still or not?

tbh, i get the feeling sierra was bricking it (and rightly so) because she was performing in front of the toughest audience, singing a song from a show that is ridiculed by the industry + they changed the song, so its not like she could just let go and do her thing, she had to make sure she didn't mess up.

i feel for her, she needs to get herself into a great show and display her talents.

Sierra belted that last note when I saw it in December. I think she's really cute, but she got stuck in a turkey of a show.

I'm so sick of Part of Your World! I liked The Little Mermaid, but COME ON! There are plenty of other songs and other fantastic cast members! I would've loved some Poor Unfortunate Souls last night!

The "scene" from TLM annoyed me for the same reason I frequently get annoyed at the Tony telecast -- it was framed for TV but it is a stage piece. They framed her, for example, from the hips, as if she didn't have this costume that was supposed to not have feet. They should have pulled back a bit or gone in a bit. While I don't think she did very well, I also think she wasn't served well by the director.

I love sierra and im use to her belting that note in the other performances Ive seen her in. But last night and even at the preview concert she did the wierd transition and it lost alittle bit of its magic. I dont mind the costume, though my friends who hadn't seen any clips of the show before were uber creeped by the tail...she did the best she could though under that intense amount of stress and nerves and I say brava! (did you see that theatre??? HUGELY GINORMOUSLY GIGANTIC!!! and little old her by herself...)

It's kind of sad that such a visually pleasing show was so mundane and dry. I have never seen the show or any videos, so the tail was annoying and incredibly distracting. I didn't enjoy anyone in that segment.

If you haven't seen the show or any videos, how do you know it is visually pleasing?
The design elements got terible reviews, the colors are nauseating.
U tube used to have some numbers and they were darn ugly.
