The balcony was open last night at the show, so I'm assuming they have fixed all problems that there were. Unfortunately, the St. James seems to have problem with falling objects. Last night at the beginning of act two, two light bulbs fell from the 'Rose' sign and shattered on the stage and without missing a beat Patti grabbed a broom from the wings a swept it up keeping character and saying her lines before the glass caused major problems.
The blacony wasn't closed because of structural problems. It was closed because of low attendance. They moved the people who had purchased balacony tickets to another area of the theater, so as not to have all three sections open.
They also closed the balcony frequently during lean weeks/months of THE PRODUCERS when ticket sales were low. Balcony ticket holders were seated in the mezzanine.
Laughter is much more important than applause. Applause is almost a duty. Laughter is a reward.

One of the ventilation covers fell from the ceiling on Monday night and injured a woman. This was during the dressing room confrontation scene and I know Patti heard the crying on stage.
Interestingly on the same night in row C of the Mezz a man had an arguement with his wife and slapped her very loudly while everyone around was telling them to be quiet. This all happened just before SOME PEOPLE and was very noisy.
Monday was an exciting night for some of the wrong reasons!
