Why do some theaters immediatly remove the marquee artwork after a show has closed like Company, while some shows like The Producer's marquee stayed up for monthes after it closed?
Yes, but sometimes people have a third deeper layer thats the same as the first. Like pie. Dr. Horrible
Often they aren't taken down simply because it costs money to do so. They let the next guy pay for it. Also, it costs less to hire a guy to paint over a marquee than it is to remove it. Most old marquees are simply thrown away.
"Years ago the League of NY Theaters replaced the marquees of closed shows with banners that read: "See a Broadway Show Just For The Fun of It"
Those belong to The Shuberts. The others usually wait until they book the next show. The marquee must be up the day the box office opens for the new show. Depending on how it's made, like if it's hand painted, the plexi can be cleaned and reused for the next show, but with computer generated images now, they can't. Rarely, but sometimes the producers take the marquee, they are rather big, and alot of times they just go into a warehouse to retire.
