Only 7 musicals have won the Pulitzer Prize, Of Thee I Sing (1932), South Pacific (1950), Fiorello! (1960), How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (1962), A Chorus Line (1976), Sunday in the Park with George (1985), and Rent (1996). Out of the seven what is your favorite?

I echo Margo.... or rather, A CHORUS LINE and SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE are on an almost-equal playing fields (which neglects your request for us to choose a 'favorite')... with RENT catching up in third place.

Incidentally, isn't it cool that come March 1, 2008 four of the seven will be on-the-boards?

I can't even see Roundabout doing a revival of FIORELLO!. Ever.

Perhaps Encores! will pick it up one year (or did they do it already?) I'd love to see Tom Bosley in one of his trademark roles.

RENT, although I suspect once I see Sunday in the Park with George, it might give Rent a good run for its money.

Of Thee I Sing, though Sunday is a close second.

Yankee - Encores! did Fiorello! in their first season, with Jerry Zaks as Fiorello and Faith Prince as Marie.

Definitely SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, followed by A CHORUS LINE.

Hmmm... probably Sunday in the Park With George. Then comes South Pacific and A Chorus Line. Well, those are my top three, I can't decide if I like that order.

Maybe not the best of the 7, but Of Thee I Sing is certainly my favorite. Love those Gershwin overtures.

Though I haven't seen or heard (though have heard of) Of Thee I Sing, Sunday is my favorite by far.

if you look at the track record at least with the last four, it seems there's been one around every 10 years... so we're due for another pulitzer-prize-winner right about now, don't you think?? haha. Any bets for the upcoming season? :)

They already missed the one for this decade: CAROLINE, OR CHANGE. In what world does RENT have a Pulitzer and CAROLINE, OR CHANGE doesn't?
GREY GARDENS would have been a nice choice for '06 too.
I can't think of any musical this season that could be a strong contender.

August: Osage County? Not a musical, but a huge Pulitzer contender.

FIORELLO?

Read the script and get the cast album. It's a very well written musical and unusual in that the leading character barely sings at all. He is defined by the songs sung about him.

I have never seen it staged, it has been rather unfairly neglected. No movie or TV version, rarely revived. But remember, it tied with SOUND OF MUSIC for the 1960 Tony award (Over GYPSY no less.)

I have also never seen OF THEE I SING (except a TV version in 1972 with Caroll O'Connor and Cloris Leachman) but of the 5 I have seen SUNDAY is my favourite. On stage I love CHORUS LINE but listen more to the score of SOUTH PACIFIC on records.

Of these 7 shows RENT is my least favourite. I like it a lot but like the other shows more.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
