Does anyone know how many people auditioned in each city? What the criteria was? Did everyone get to see the three judges or was there a screening process?
Someone who audition posted on the imdb board said that there was a screening process (in fact, two days of initial auditions. One for the screening and the second to see the judges)

Criterion to audition for YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I WANT:
Must have a physicality that can either be:
a) easily insulted and dismissed (plan to stay for a maximum of 3 episodes if you fall into this category)
b) embraced and and placed in a cardboard box with the other contestants that will stay around for most of the series.
Must be white (minor exception: there will be 3-4 token African-American performers that will get kicked off mid-way through the series, one Asian-American, 5 Latinos that will be dismissed every other episode accordingly, with the possibility of an Indian-American that will be dismissed early in an episode around sweeps month).
Need to be able to sing -or- not be able to sing.
Women: Must be pretty, white, blonde and have big boobs.
Men: Must be pretty, white, with dark brown/black hair and a toned body.
Brains optional.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

It has so many sides

Rooted deep in history
