Just got back from seeing Jersey Boys Saturday Eve. 12-23 and I was surprised first that Michael Longoria was playing Frankie since everyone said Michael was only doing Matinee's.
Well, first I want to say, I wasn't disappointed when I got to the theatre and went on Cancellation Line. We were able to secure two seats for regular price. Then when we got our playbills there were those little white slips in them and thats when I found out that Michael was going on for JLY. I have to tell you I have been wanting to catch Michael play Frankie since I heard only good things about him in this role. I love him as little Joe Pesci but what a treat for me to see him playing Frankie.
Michael was very good, he has a falsetto voice and I noticed he adds his own style which I liked. He is playing the role the way he wants not trying to copy JLY at all. Each play the part differently. I can honestly say I enjoyed it very much and I can see him taking over for JLY when he leaves the show. Michael is a great actor and singer. I like the way he peformed "Fallen Angel" when he finds out his daughter is dead, those were real tears and he sang while the tears were rolling down his face. He brought tears to my eyes. This kid is defintely going places. The others were all there Christian, Bobby, and Daniel as the 4 Seasons.
I have seen this show many many times but tonight was like a treat. I am going away for the Holidays and it was our last night in New York, we leave Monday on vacation and I needed a Jersey Boys fix, so we went to Dinner and then tried our luck on Cancellation Line and we scored big time. What a nice way to leave New York seeing one of my favorite shows then being completely blown away by Michael's performance.
Broadwaybaby, Have you seen him play Frankie in Jersey Boys? I just wanted to know what you thought of his performance. I loved him in the role. I like the fact that he changed it a bit and added his own style.
I saw it on 12/16 and Michael was Frankie. At first I think I was comparing him too much to JLY but that was stupid. He was amazing! He sounded great and was just a lot of fun to watch.
