Add Andy Karl to that list too. Besides that, I'm sorry but, when did "Elle" turn into "Glinda"?! How is it that it trickled down from Cheno to Bundy to Hilty (another name I heard alot). It's so stupid. And I don't know what happened behind closed doors but like Bree said, it did seem like Cheno was heavily vying for the role during her stint in Wicked, but that's just my opinion. We can only hope this show takes everyone by surprise as it doesn't sound like there are high expectations, which is strange. I'm not thrilled about Bundy, thought she was very "eh" in Hairspray but maybe we'll all be pleasantly surprised. At least they haven't (thus far) stupidly "stunt cast" the roles.
And to whomever said Cheno was 32-33 during Wicked, that would make Wicked 7 years old already and that's just not the case. According to IMDB Cheno was born in 68', do the math.
No one in this thread said she was 32-33 during Wicked. KuhnKrazy said she was 32 when the original Legally Blonde movie came out, which is true.

Um, no. If you want to get at me you'll have to do better than that.

Don't flatter yourself Midwest, I wasn't trying to "get at you" I was genuinely curious as to how it is that no matter what time of day, you're around to defend yourself or correct or chastise the rest of us within 2 minutes. It's just odd that's all. I don't have the time or interest to "get at you". It was a real question. Updated On: 11/4/06 at 09:25 AM
ruprecht, Hilty was just a fan rumor. She was never considered for the role (nor did she want to be.)
She has said that although it looked like alot of fun, she was weary of being typecast (which kind of boggles me as to her continued interest in playing Glinda, but it's a steady job in a big hit show.)
It's a shame she wasn't interested, because she would have been fantastic. The score (at least the three songs I heard) falls right into her great belt range, which she didn't get to show off in Wicked, but alas, Laura was great, so I hope she is just as good when she hits the stage.
In regards to your assumption that Glinda and Elle went hand in hand casting wise, that really isn't true. They both have very different vocal ranges, so not every Glinda could have done it.
I do agree, though, that alot of fan speculation centered around people from Wicked just because of the cute blonde requirement, but I can assure you that the creative team wasn't particularly focusing on every actress to play Glinda.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
ruprecht, just cutting through all the crap, I'm not someone who's here to correct people or chastise people or generally be mean to anyone. I'm not someone who gets into fights with people on here a lot of the time. I'm someone who's just tired of people on here who go off on other people about things that they clearly aren't that knowledgable about themselves. I don't think that I'm better than anyone on these boards, but I think there are people here who behave in a way that's beneath what they're capable of, and if that's how they choose to present themselves, then fine.
I'm here to talk to people and share thoughts and ideas, ruprecht. I'm sure you're an incredibly intelligent person and I bet there's a lot of things that I would love to hear your opinions on.

There's always Tina Maddigan to add to the mix! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer
"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher
Well, we knew that was coming. phanty, really, there's not enough time for me to explain why Maddigan is completely wrong for the role. As for Midwest, I get it, but you just seem to come off as having a bit of a "superiority" thing going on. We're not all teens obsessed with Wicked on this board. Some of us, I'd like to think myself included, are genuine theater fans who try very hard, (in a world that worships supermarket tabloid stars with no talent), to support a worthy artform with some exceptionally talented people in it, that's all.
SomethingWicked, you may have better knowledge of it than I, but I recall hearing that Hilty was very much in the running but that might have been a rumor she started herself. It seems a bit hypocritical to say she "didn't want to be typecast" if she's still playing Glinda. I would think LB, would have been a step up. Again, I could be completely wrong. You seem like you have actual "inside" info. Either way, it would not have killed the creative team to think outside the "who's played glinda" box.
If I have an air of superiority, then I apologize for that and I'll try to keep that in check.
There's several things I've said here in the last several days that I wish I had expressed in a different way, but I think a lot of things I've wanted to say for a while had been built up and just sort of came pouring out.
I'm sure there are a lot of people on this board who know a hell of a lot more about theater related topics than I do (you're probably one of them, ruprecht) and that's part of why I enjoy this place. You learn a lot, not just about the theater, but about the people who are interested in it.

It doesn't. She was a great Sophie, she's an awesome Julia. I think she'd make a good Glinda and she's a pretty blonde, so why not Elle?

Well for starters Phantom, she's NOT a blonde, bottle or otherwise. Is that a good enough reason besides that she's totally wrong for most of the roles you insist she'd master?
I don't think that is really fair to say she isn't believable as a college student. She was believable in WICKED. I think she would have been amazing in this role.
amazing or not, she's starting to look like a grown woman lately, not a high school, or grad school student. Have you seen the picture of her on Wontorek's blog? Not a perky student anymore. IMHO!
and plus the pics of LBB that I have seen from her fansite look so great. y don't we give her a chance before we start throwing around replacement ideas...plus they would not go with tina anyway.

Tina looks a lot younger than Cheno. She looks a lot younger than Benati too.

I was referring to Tina's youthfulness in the roles she's played.
