I'm getting married in May of 2007, i know it's a while away, but the DJ suggested we use showtunes for the cocktail hour as well as dinner and dessert time. I'm starting to make a list as we speak to be sure I do not forget any good ones. Any song suggestions?
"The NExt Ten Minutes" from L5Y. It's going to be my wedding song.
"I can't figure out what kind of life this is, comedy or tragedy, I just know it's showbiz. And what if I don't agree with the lines I have to read? They don't pay me enough, the way I see it."
I would do a mix of B-Way songs. Some that the guests could jam to, and songs for you and you're fiance can dance to. Here are a few of my choices that I hope you'll take into consideration for your special day next year.
Let It Go- The Full Monty Dancing Queen- Mamma Mia All I Ask Of You- The Phantom of the Opera Love to Me- The Light in the Piazza Without Love- Hairspray
I think "The Next 10 Minutes" from the Last Five Years would be a great song for your wedding.
Since it's cocktail hour, dinner, and dessert, I'd stray away frm anything too loud and obnoxious. I'd go with something from Cheno's "Let Yourself Go" CD.
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view - until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."
To Kill A Mockingbird
It seems that your DJ had more mellow, classic tunes in mind, so I'd stay away from the bombastic/modern stuff. Here's my suggestions:
1. So In Love- Kiss Me, Kate 2. If Ever I would Leave You- Camelot 3. Hello, Young Lovers- The King and I 4. I Could Have Danced All Night and/or On the Street Where You Live- My Fair Lady 5. Something Good- The Sound of Music 6. Old Devil Moon- Finian's Rainbow 7. One Hand, One Heart- West Side Story
soft love songs would be good: e.g. Something Good - Sound of Music Till There Was You - Music Man Last Night of the World - Miss Saigon People Will Say We're In Love - Oklahoma So In Love - Kiss Me Kate
a little offbeat: Two Lost Souls - Damn Yankees a little louder: There Once Was A Man - Pajama Game - the bride and groom could belt this one out. Now, I wish I had done that at my wedding...
One Hand, One Heart would be my top choice. It's such a gorgeous song.
Grow Old With You - The Wedding Singer Balcony scene (Tonight) - West Side Story Take Me As I Am- Jekyll and Hyde

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...
"Every day has the potential to be the greatest day of your life." - Lin-Manuel Miranda
"And when Idina Menzel is singing, I'm always slightly worried that her teeth are going to jump out of her mouth and chase me." - Schmerg_the_Impaler
One Hand, One Heart and Somewhere from WSS Forever Yours from Once on this Island
"In theater, the process of it is the experience. Everyone goes through the process, and everyone has the experience together. It doesn't last - only in people's memories and in their hearts. That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." - Sherie Rene Scott
I know almost everyone hates Thou Shalt Not, but I'm using All Things somewhere. I also planned for: the Next Ten Minutes, Love to Me, So in Love, & Till There was You. Have fun planning!!!!
Say It Somehow from Piazza. What about Paula Abdul's Will You Marry Me, I know it's not a showtune. Also, Grww Old With You from The Wedding Singer.
"People have their opinions and that doesn't mean that their opinions are wrong or right. I just take it with a grain of salt because opinions are like as*holes, everyone has one".
-Felicia Finley-
Darn it, I was gonna suggest As Long As You're Mine. But you're right, it is a bit dark. I definitely think It's Your Wedding Day is more than appropriate. Hell, it's so appropriate it should become a cliche.

ATTENTION FANS: I will be played by James Barbour in the upcoming musical, "BroadwayWorld: The Musical."
As Long As You're Mine is a bit dark....but parts of it are so fitting to us..like the back story. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I'm sort of like Elphaba being that I'm an "outcast" and "wicked" for apparentely standing up for people in highschool and currently at work, b/c apparentely people do not change from the time they are 17(Elphaba standing up for the Animals and their rights...a bit of a stretch) and he's the guy that despite everything has chosen to be with me. So I did add it. I added everything else as well. I don't know why, but I forgot about West Side Story. I love West Side Story! Thanks everyone!
Oh yeah...and Grow Old With You, is our cake cutting song. It was our cake cutting song even before we saw The Wedding Singer. We would've played the Adam Sandler version. Actually, the DJ suggested that I make a recording of it with me singing and playing the guitar, so we might do it. It won't sound great, but I'm the bride so too bad...
