So a local theatre is putting on a production of The Full Monty. They generally put on decent productions, but how is the actual show?
So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?
It's a hilarious show. The music is wonderful too.
If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....
Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)
The West End version, subsequently titled The Full Monty: Uncut, continues to be a big hit across the UK!

The Producers was just riding a wave. So they tossed it every award possible. Score and Featured Actress really should have gone to Monty.

Just got the cast recording the other day. I think it is absoloutley brillant. There are both insanely funny and beautifully touching songs and I would love to see it done live.
It is an amazing show. Unrated and not given enough credit. How it slipped through the cracks I'll never know. It is one of my favorite shows.
"All the while making faces like a baby platypus who forget to take some Beano before eating a chimichanga." FindingNamo in reference to Jessica Simpson's singing.
How it slipped through the cracks I'll never know.
Let me help ya out there, hun. Two words: THE PRODUCERS.

The Producers win over The Full Monty still kills me. FM was far and away the best musical of that season. It's a fantastic show with an excellent score that contains both some of the funniest and some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard.
I like "The Producers" but I LOVE "The Full Monty". I saw it several times on Broadway and during the First National Tour. I also saw the final performance of the show that "The Gallery Players" did in Brooklyn last year and it was also great! The guys were totally naked at the end which was different than the Broadway and tour versions.

It's even more fun to do than watch! Just getting ready to wrap up a production of it in Cincy. It's been a true joy and great time to do this show. Although I also love Producers, I agree that FM definatley got some serious overlooking at the Tony's. Perhaps a revival in a matter of years would give it the just attention it deserved.
Any other year FM would have swept the Tonys. The score is fantastic, and finally a musical with REAL masculinity, where men are men. (Despite a few cheesy bits of dialogue, of course)
True.. The day after "The Full Monty" opened, they were pretty much set to sweep the Tonys. Then "The Producers" came along and won several Tonys that they perhaps deserved and took ones that rightfully belonged to "The Full Monty." "Monty" should have easily taken Best Score and Best Supporting Actress at the very least. I'm still very bothered by their loss that year.

Thats not true im afraid, the Full Monty was a not a hit in london and its national tour was awfull and played to half empty houses. The UK didn't really embrace this show as they thought it was wrong that the action was moved to the states.A lot of people who did go to see it were also annoyed at its location change and thought it was a cheap version of the film. The full Monty has never been a hit here and i doubt ever will be.
PS it was never called THE FULL MONTY:UNCUT they just tagged the UNCUT on the poster to try and up the ticket sales. They weren't really any changes made for the UK version just a few lines here and there.
Thanks for the info west end artist1 too bad this show had such a hard time finding an audience. By the by how did it do (financially at least) on Broadway?
They just did The Full Monty at MTW and I LOVED it! It's a really great show that is as touching as it is funny. I never thought I'd find myself yelling and clapping for middle aged men to take off their clothes. But there I was screaming with the rest of the audience.
"Walk With Me" is one of the most beautiful songs to come out of music theatre in the past decade. I absolutely love it!
