How could they NOT nominate Woman in White instead of the Wedding Singer? This is an outrage!! And overlooking Maria Friedman? I think she gave an amazing performance!

Needless to say, Disney needs to make friends with Tony voters (which have been schmoozed to death by Oprah, some say). I expected Tarzan to get more design noms.

But I digress . . ALW was robbed of a Best Musical nom!!

I'm thinking that WIW would have had a shot had it opened later in the season.

For the record, Andrew Lloyd-Webber was not snubbed. He received a nomination for Best Score.

Webber wasn't robbed.

He got the nomination he would have been up for...his score.

How is that being robbed?

Also, if it wouldn't have done so poorly that it closed so quickly, Drowsy wouldn't have been able to "take away" it's noms.

But it did poorly because it wasn't good. At all.

It was a two hour, forty minute yawn.

I didn't think The Wedding Singer was very good either, but at least it knew it wasn't that great. Thus, it was kind of fun.

The Woman in White was a pretentious bore with great music that even good performances couldn't save. Overall, it's just an unenjoyable show. It got exactly the nomination it deserved.

heh...

White, Singer, Lestat, Life, Lennon...

NONE of these shows deserve a best musical nod.

Hanna...if WIW hadn't closed, DROWSY would have probably gone into the Schoenfeld instead...still opening before the Tony deadline. So you see...DROWSY would have still "been able to 'take away' it's noms"...and probably would have.

NYLG -- I really wasn't serious about the WIW / Drowsy situation. Just that each show has an opportunity to "earn" a nomination. Just the fact that WIW wasn't compelling enough to stay open put in jeopardy the nominations for all parties involved. Maria Friedman (if WIW would have made it) probably would have had a better chance at a nomination. However, the best actress category was so jammed packed that the committee had to draw the line. I'm honestly surprised that Sutton got the nomination. I don't feel that her character is a true "lead" role. Her performance is great, but with all the competition I didn't think she'd make the cut.

Except for the lighting, Tarzan was horribly designed.

"Tarzan DIDN'T get completely snubbed...they got a lighting no"

I'd almost say thats worse than being snubbed - it's kinda like the voters are saying

"Yeah, we saw your show and the only thing worth seeing was the lighting"

At least if your snubbed completely you can say that you were unfairly ignored etc.

I was happy that ALW received a nom for Best Score (wonder if he'll attend the Tony's) - now he can go around telling everyone how it was everyone else's fault WIW closed - lol *(although he has said in recent interviews he was never big on the set design --)

I think if they had stuck to their original plan - open in Chicago in November, come to NY in Jan - things could have been very different. They would have had a $6 million advance no matter what because of the ALW name alone. That would have kept the show doing good business till this time (of Tony Noms) and it probably would have had a bunch of nominations considering the competition really petered out.

Although there's some here who hate WIW, there would have been enough support from the Theatre community for it to do well.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda at this point though...

I agree with chernjam on this one. Now that I think about it, the original plan actually might have fared better. It just came WAY to quickly for anyone to notice, and it closed before many people could see it. Too bad.

Although I knew this would happen, I am still upset. I pretty much expected what was going to happen with the noms though, so nothing too out of the ordinary. WIW best win for score!

...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...
