Just got cast as this part and i'm so f---ing pissed. I hate old men parts and his song is lame. The character is unmemorable in comparison and has no "meat" (no fun songs like Be Our Guest - nothing!) I am so pissed..

Any advice? Is there a new way I could try the part?

Stop fishing for sympathy. Think of those who didn't get cast. By bumping your own "woe is me" thread you just look pathetic. If you hate the part that much quit and let someone who acctually wants to be in the show have the part.

I, myself, was just cast in the same role. Was I happy about it? Not particularly. But I see it as two things - you can either be bored, sad, dissapointed, and drop out, or you can choose to make your Maurice the most interesting, loveable, memorable part of the show. His song is not THAT boring - make it interesting. Form a good relationship with the lady who's playing your Belle. Enjoy that time on stage with her. If you make a connection, and really put your heart into it, it won't be so boring and unmemorable. Now get over it, be glad you got cast, and go play Maurice!

Is there any other way of playing the role? Something new?

Anyone remember the late Paul Lynde and how fantastic he was as the father in Bye Bye Birdie? To get an idea, rent the movie Bye Bye Birdie and take a look. That's an example of how someone with a unique personality can make a part his own. I'm sure a lot of you out there are too young to remember him.

I little egotistical, are we?

Its still a decent part. My friend Ty was just cast as Maurice when he really should have gotten Gaston and he's okay with it.

My suggestion is that if you are that disappointed and "pissed" then drop out and let someone who would be thrilled to be in the show have the role.

Due to the circumstances, dropping out is not an option

Maybe you should research doing something new on your own.

Sure we could type out some ideas, but do some intense character work and find out more about Maurice...what do YOU have to offer the role? It's cliche, but make it your own.

I need your suggestions...

Anyone else agree this part is unmemorable?

The one time I saw it Maurice was a real stand out. He was great and I honestly couldn't tell you much about many of the other character. It's what you make of it. I agree. Suck it up.

Yeah but it's almost embarassing when people ask you what part you are. There are no Maurice dolls or action figures like Lumiere or Cogsworth. THEY are memorable.

Plus, I spend soooooooooo much time off stage... I hate that... I want to be in fun, memorable things like Be Our Guest and Human Again.

Keep in mind Tom Bosley originated the role on stage, so it's not a throwaway part. Ok so it's not my favorite role either. A different way to play it would be to play it straight and not make him seem eccentric and absent-minded but in control and levelheaded and serious. Just my two cents.

Dean: Can I tell you something? Lorraine: That depends on what it is. Dean: I think you're really really pretty. Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.

I was also recently cast in the same show as a wolf! Be happy you actually get to sing a song and have lines. Sure they're not memorable or fun, but there are other parts who aren't in anything fun either. I'll be onstage for a total of 3 minutes. Suck it up, get over yourself, and be happy you have a part!

Wow. You really are very unappreciative. Who CARES if there is no action figure. You can't be embarassed by a role. You have to own it.

if you keep up this crappy attitude the director might just cut your song all together. and if you're off stage a lot, think of all the "trouble" you could get into with fellow cast members and crew.....mmmm

Are you kidding me? Is this Mary Sunshine's Preschool production or something? I mean really, how old are you? 4?

Wow you didn't deserve any role. An awful attitude will get you absolutely NO WHERE in this business. Sometimes your the lead, sometimes your supporting and sometimes your in the ensemble. You accept that and move the hell on and make the role stand out on your own. Put the energy your using to be whiney into making the role the best it can be.
