Idina, then Julia and then Eden

Q:What advice do you have for aspiring Broadway stars who are terminally shy? I love your work, because you seem so bold. How do you do it? A:"I think I take more chances on stage then I do in real life but you can't learn anything if you don't challenge yourself. And don't say "terminally". If you love to perform then you have no choice, just keep training and focus on the words or the music whenever you find yourself slipping back inside yourself. You're not doing anyone any favors if you withhold your talents from the world"- Idina Menzel

"I just have a personal attachment to Eden 1) because she's amazing"

Well, that's very specific!

"and 2) she was the lead in my very first Broadway show."

Therein lies the bias, yes? Somehow I think if Menzel or Murney or any of these other women had been your first lead in your first Broadway show, you'd be saying the same thing.

Idina - Possibly. She was actually my original favorite. But now that I've listened to many more of the Elphabas, I've found Eden to be my favorite.

Julia - Never. I think Julia is by far the worst Elphaba ever to hit the stage. I can't stand her singing, hence why she's been called a goat.

"I hope you're joking. Please tell me you're joking. Right now."

When I said that, I thought you meant that no one in the history of musical theatre could be better than Eden.

Oh, haha, I'm glad we got that cleared up then... Eden is certainly my favorite Elphaba, but I am not naive enough to say she's the best that's ever been!

I, for some reason, have never been too fond of Shoshana. Her riffing irritated me. I now think she is amazing. I guess I just had to get used to her.

I think Shoshana is worse than Idina - her riffing and nasal voice are used to make an attempt at a "soulful" sound that just doesn't work.
