I just read that someone saw her as Elphaba in Chicago. Does anyone have any reviews of her performance? I'd love to here what other people think of her portrayal of the character!
We worked together a few years ago. She's fantastic. We've been playing phone tag since I saw this post today. She left a message saying she went on for the first time last Sunday, and again on Tuesday. She said it was fantastic and she had a great time!
I saw her last Sunday. I was initially disappointed that Ana was out, because she was not out when I picked up my tickets, a few hours earlier. I warmed up to her in the middle of "Wizard and I". Her acting was superb throughout, and she got the character. Extremely nice belt, especially in "No Good Deed". I am surprised to hear this was her first time on- it did not seem like it at all, which is a good thing. She had a nice rapport with Kate Reinders (who I did not like, but that is another topic for another time).
I have seen a few Elphabas, and I would rank her performance above some of the others.

Her belt is a little more "musical-theatre-like" than some of the Elphabas I have seen. She did add some riffing on Defy Gravity, on the final phrases, but it was not overkill, so I was extremely happy. I am not a fan of riffing every note.
Otis33- if you talk to her, tell her she definitely has a new fan! Happy to see her get the chance to perform.

I'm thrilled to know that Courtney finally went on as Elphaba! She was my ten-year-old daughter's voice coach here in Escondido, CA (north of San Diego) until she was cast in "Wicked" and we know how extremely talented, warm and amazing Courtney is! This is her dream role! Courtney, Emily was so lucky to have you as her vocal coach! Love and kisses to you and all your fans! Please post the next time Courtney goes on as "Elphaba". Laura and Emily
I wish I could have seen Courtney play Elphaba. I always wished I could have heard the role sung with no vocal talent and a vibrato similar to a goat's bleat. How thrilling it must have been.
Wow. Read the thread, people who saw her live liked her, including myself. She does have tons of talent and actually does private classes as well as group classes. And her vibrato, what about it, Julia Murney has a strong on and still is amazing
Oh, that was her first DG in LA and only her third time going on in total, including la and Chicago. But she sounded noting like that when I saw her in Chicago. She sounded great!
I think all she needs is a chance to prove herself again. But she's doing plays in San Diego. But she will be doing a performance, it will be COURTNEY COREY, MERIDETH KAYE CLARK, KRISTEN MENGELKOCH and KELSEY VENTER. Link provided.
