On Broadway.com on the review for Lights Cast Recording. Ken Mandelbaum writes....
"Mentally impaired daughter Clara has fine arias in "The Beauty Is" and the title number."
From listening to the Cast Recording, I can understand Clara has some issues. But is her being mentally impaired the big secret? Will knowing this ruin the "secret" for me when I see the show?
Oh, and if this isn't the complete secret, please dont ruin it for me, and post everything about it. Thanx!
If you have listened to the recording, and you want to be as surprised as possible when seeing the show itself, it would be best to avoid "The Beauty Is (Reprise)". Track 14.
Yep. I already have listened to the Reprise of TBI. I try not looking into that much. But oh well - I guess I know the secret. But I still can't wait to see the show regardless.
It's not like knowing the end of The Sixth Sense or anything. One of those jack@sses (the frat boy one) on the Z100 morning show ruined the end of this for me. I was pissed. Serves me right for listening to that crap though.
"Some of us have it worse, you know, Dana. Some of us are dating lesbian men. Okay? C'mon."
The secret is really not the important feature of the show...what IS important is the heart of the show, the writing, design and performances. Knowing or not knowing the secret will in no way change the way you feel about the show when you see it.
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!"
Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!
i dont think it matters either, the 'secret' is not the conclusion of the show, its just a fact in the show that develops the story and explains the state of Margaret & Clara's relationship.
I have been perusing this thread with one eye open and one eye closed. I've avoided listening to the CD for just this reason! Knowing what is written here, I will listen to maybe the 1st half or so. I am planning to see it sometime in the next 6 weeks! With everyone's incredible enthusiasm and awe of this show, I really can't wait.
I, personally, don't think that listening to the CD will "give anything away". The music is beautiful - but you've simply got to see the staging to understand what's going on in a lot of the musical numbers. Listen all you want to - but please don't deny yourself the pleasure of being a part of the audience for a performance of Piazza - it's simply the best piece of musical theatre out there today.

I don't think the "secret" is the "twist" that everyone talks about. The "secret" is sorta common knowledge b/c of the film and because of every single review that you read. It's the twist that is the surprise...
I'm surprised that a z100 dj has seen/heard of/listened to Piazza! I mean, WOW! I would never have expected that! I would think that Usher & Beyonce would consume their lives!
Question: Will Esparza win for The Homecoming?
BobbyBubby: I hope so. If only for the mental health of many people on this board.
