Ok, there are a lot of "stars" that can sing and come to Broadway between taping shows or whatever...

Obviously, not all actors can sing, not saying anything bad a particular person. But...

If you could choose one "star" (film, tv...) who doesn't sing and
somehow gave them a great voice so they could perform in musicals, who would it be?

Mine: Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep (was that her singing at the end of Postcards from the Edge?) come to mind for me.....

John Cusack. I don't know if he can sing, but there are numerous difficult musical roles I'd love to see him in. Bobby in Company springs most readily to mind, and Freddie in Chess.

Tom Hanks because I think he'd make a great "showman".

My random picks would be :

Renee Russo- She would be great for "City of Angels"
Harrison Ford ( He sang a little in the movie (Witness)

These two are probably two of my favoite actors so if they came to broadway I would be very happy.

Sandra Bullock. I would actually like to see her at least do a play.
Christopher Walkin. I know he can dance, but I don't know if he can sing?
Caroline Rhea. She's funny as hell, and really nice. She was great in the play "Mondo Drama".

Oh, Miss Grant, I thought you would have said Julie Andrews!

And Bronte, yes, that was Meryl's own voice. She really is a good singer and was at one time in consideration for the film version of EVITA.

PEACE.

I know Christopher Walken was in James Joyce's The Dead which is listed as a musical on IBDM, so I'm guessing yes?

Hi Sueleen !

Your right I normally would have said Julie, However I already consider her a broadway legend! I know she can do anything.

I was thinking of movie stars

Tom Cruise - What a Billy Bigelow he would make!

My number one choice is EMMA THOMPSON.
She can actually sing a little and she's a phenomenal actress- she would be amazing on Broadway.

I heard Sandra was a trained opera singer...or maybe that was her mother? It was mentioned in an interview that she does have some singing ability.

If I had my choice. It would be Halle Berry so we could get Dreamgirls made.

I saw Walken in The Dead and he can sing... he had a big number at the end. It was a weird "musical" in the sense that the first hour and forty minutes was pretty much a play with Irish folk music, and then at the very end switched to musical format where the music was actually integrated into the plot. Strange, I know... but it was a good show all the same! :) Great cast too!!! How can you go wrong with Walken, Blair Brown, Marni Nixon, Sally Ann Howes, Emily and Alice?! LOL

Please note that Our Fair Meryl has also performed in the stage musicals Happy End and Alice in Concert.

Alice in Concert (by the incomperable Swados) had an amazing cast including a very YOUNG Mark-Lynn Baker and also Michael Jeter.

I loved the show and thankfully it's been made recently available on video as well....

Julia Stiles because I think she is a great actress, and would love to see her onstage.

And Dakota Fanning, just because I saw her on Letterman last night, and she is adorable.

Leonardo Dicaprio- has the acting down, and would be perfect for those boy to men type musical roles.
Sara Michelle Geller just because.

Rene's voice compaired to others is not perfection but it is not bad in the least. It is a nice pleasing voice. I liked it. I mean I would not want her doing EVITA or something.

As yes, SueleenGay...how could I forget about Meryl and Evita??

"I can sing better than she can. If Madonna gets it, I'll rip her throat out!" (On whether Madonna should play Eva Peron in the film version of Evita instead of her)

Ms. Streep continues to impress me with her ability to not only to perform but also to research her roles. Postcards from the Edge is one of my favorite movies but I don't think I could choose a favorite Meryl film.

Also, about Sandra, I don't know about singing, but I heard she's an amazing dancer.

I would have to go with Anthony Hopkins. I'd love to see what he could do with parts like Jean Valjean.

I loved "Postcars From the Edge", but one of my favorite Meryl films is "Death Become Her." LOL It is one of those guilty pleasure movies. It's so bad that I like it. Difficult to explain. re: re: re: re: re: re: re: If you could give a 'star' the ability to sing and be on b'way.....
