What a night in NYC. Donna returns, Kristin is out sick, TABOO opens, and we have 60 mph winds blowing.

I look forward to posts on any and all of the above subjects.

I'm very interested in hearing reports on Wicked tonight. Every piece of theatre must be able to survive without its stars if it is to have ultimate merit.

That's funny, because winds blow in Oz and a certain segment says that Rosie is a blowhard and a certain segment says Taboo blows but I hope everything works out. I do.

Once again, despite rackage, I felt myself being carried off by the wind. And it took me a good ten minutes to get a cigarette light. That's all I have to say about today (minus class registration woes.... I talked like a David Mamet play today).

My hat blew off my head on my way to work. It blew onto Columbus Ave but I retrieved it.

I bought December tickets for WONDERFUL TOWN and AVENUE Q.

Walked home again but my hat stayed on my head.

Once, my mother was with one of her husbands in the City and, as they were crossing the street, she lost her shoe in the middle of the road. He ran back out into the street and retrieved it for her, narrowly dodging a cab. That's love.

However, the shoes lasted longer than the husband.

I'm feeling toward MusicMan as Edna feels toward the Von Tussels.

He and Roxy make a beautiful couple.

Ya, the wind is awful in Ohio, too. The power went out on one side of town and tonight was our school's Fall Play, "The Beverly Hillbillies." You guessed it...the high school was on the side of town with the power outage. As they say, "The Show Must Go On!" The fire department brought in a generator and hooked up those big bright lights. In the duration of act II, the lights came on! What an experience!

Those firefighters are theatrical heroes. If there's anything I can personally do to thank them for you, have them get in touch with me.

Hunter was out of the show because he was at the 'Taboo' opening. If Melissa Bell Chait went on as G(a)linda, I'm anxious to see what people thought of her! I've seen her in other things and think she's great.

Your kiddin'
Hunter was at the Taboo opening. That sucks for the people who paid money to see him. (or not)

It was very bad at the airports today. Almost had our flight cancelled.

I am sorry to hear about your blackout BT11, but even sorrier to hear your school considers THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES a play.

Where is the theatre education in America?

And don't say "Budget cuts" cuz it takes just as much money to put on crappy scripts as it does to put on something with a little more artistic merit! Didn't the fire department have anything more important to do?

PEACE.

I'm with Sueleen about the limited dramatic posibilities of the Hillbillies. I mean jeesh, what a country! Were the rights to Pettycoat Junction unavailable??

Maybe they could do The Real McCoys instead?

Beverly Hillbillies, eh? Wow. Then again, not just one, but TWO high schools in my town are doing Up the Down Staircase as their fall play. What's with that?

My child's four year line-up has been A Thousand Clowns, Our Town, The Crucible and the aforementioned Staircase. No word yet on the choice for spring musical...the first three years were Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, and Charlie Brown. I am SO hoping for an inspired choice.

I directed a high school production of NOISES OFF about 15 years ago. It was one of the best shows I ever did! Act Two played like a well-oiled clock and the audiences laughted hysterically throughout. However, I must asmit I have a falir for directing farces. LEND ME A TENOR and RUMOURS were also extremely successful in my high school versions.

Dolly: I'm fascinated that NOISES would work in high school. I just wonder how "Nothing On" plays with teens in the roles, since it is a sex comedy, though a purposefully lame West End wink-wink kind. I will perhaps send you a Q&A after I see tonight's show, in a separate thread. I think high schools need to be more adventuresome, so brava to you. I appeared in "Skin of Our Teeth" and "The Little Foxes" in high school, an eon ago.

I hear every college now does "Angels in America" and "Laramie Project." Wonder if high schools try the latter? Beats a preachy assembly on homophobia that kids wouldn't listne to.

Actually, the play version requires some EXCELLENT actors/actresses! I would never have picked to do the show, but it was not as bad as it sounds!

BoxOfficeJon, you would not go see your wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend if their show was opening!
