Which Grease recording is the best in your opinion? Movie, OBC, revival?? I'm auditioning for the show and was thinking of buying the recording anyways. I'd love to read your opinions. Thanks.

I don't own any of the recordings, but if you're auditioning for the show, you're probably better off getting the Original Cast Recording or Revival Cast Recording; not the movie soundtrack.

I think the best is the movie, but if you are auditioning id go with the revival i like it more (cept Rosies voice is obnoxious)

I like the movie version. I ESPECIALLY hate the revival soundtrack. The only good voice in that whole soundtrack is Megan Mullally...and of course...Hunter =) I've never heard such a bad "Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee" until Rosie did it. Man she butchered that song...and its my favorite song from Grease too!

The only good voice on that recording? You've GOT to be joking me!!! Jason Osaphl, Susan Wood, Billy Porter, Hunter Foster, Megan Mullaly all give AMAZING vocal performances! A very strong chorus as well.

I agree with Seany, and not just 'cause he's adorable... I enjoy the revival... you can get the one with Rosie O, OR you can get the reissued version with Brooke Shields as Rizzo.

and I LOVE John McDaniel's orchestrations...

try the brooke shields version ... its passable ... but WAY BETTER than the Rosie recording which sounds like a cat being run over by a pick up truck while meowing in pain ...

LOL Well then I'm a nerd too. I have more than one recording of "Chicago" and more than one recording of "Gypsy." lol I just love both of those shows.

Thanks for all your help everyone! I think I'm going to go with the revival soundtrack because Hunter Foster is on it. *laugh* Thanks again!

Ya...if you are auditioning for the show, stay away from the movie soundtrack.

i agree with staying away from the movie soundtrack, except for "look at me, i'm sandra dee" and "there are worse things i could do." and also, it depends on what part ur going for for which CD to buy.

the london cast is just downright fun. i love it. and it's the ONLY cd with the real version of "shakin at the high school hop." i would strongly reccomend this one because there aren't many major music changes in it.

the new and the "new-est" BDWY cast recordings (with rosie and brooke sheilds, respectively) are really good too, except for audition purposes, i wouldn't reccomend it because of the major musical changes in "magic changes" written just for sam harris because i don't think there's another living soul who can sing higher than him, and "beauty school drop out" which is 8 minutes long and is just for billy porter. but it's really good just for those 2 songs.

the original cast recording is good for hearing the original sound and the original lyrics, but it's not as fun as the others.

hope this helps a bit.

So you're saying the london cast is the best? And yeah I've decided to stay away from the movie sound track, that wouldn't make much sense. As far as who I'm auditioning for.. well like every other girl in the world I'd love to be Sandy. Haha =)

I'd go with the London version. It is the best, by far.
