You folks will never get it....

ABBA's MAMA MIA is abysmal.

Billy Joel's MOVIN OUT is moribound.

The last original contemporary rock musical was HAIR because it was a musical, not a strung together amalgamam of thoughtless tunes.

It's the very low common demoninator of mass culture that creates and sustains an audience for these types of shows, or their unimaginative clones "spring"ing forth.

I'm certainly aware I'm not going to change anyone's mind. All one can do is weep for the decreasing standard of cultural insight and awareness in American society.

Erik. I never understood one word sung, nor barely understood the words spoken in Hedwig. Sorry, but being untelligible doesn't count in the theatre.

I was surprised to see the BRUCE topic. Please know the combination of Springsteen and Broadway is not mutually exclusive. I've been a Bruce fan for many years, but my Broadway addiction predates the Boss. Over the past 2 years since 9/11 and other personal circumstances, Bruce and the E Street Band's Rising CD captured me and carried me back to his other works. I've been in the "Pit" for 3 of his shows this year and it has been an experience of comraderie and celebration that I won't forget.

My wife and I will be coming to NYC for Labor Day to renew our love affair with Broadway and see Bruce in Jersey for the first time. We've planned a return visit for RENT Friday night, left Sat. open for other decisions on a new show, and are seeing The Producers for the Sunday matinee. Then it's off to the Port Authority Bus to catch Bruce in the Meadowlands Sunday night for his last Giants Stadium performance.

We're North Carolinians who cherish our excursions to the Big Apple. We'll look forward to our favorite dining spots and the feel of Manhattan as we walk forever during the weekend.

Don't discount the multitude of Broadway fans that love the theatre, but also love the culture, history, music scene, sports events and other draws of New York. We can't wait to be back and loved seeing Springsteen as a topic of the Board. It's all great and should be celebrated.

Don't forget the incredible tribute Bruce always give to NYC, Jersey and especially the Urban Ministry and those lost in 9/11.

Now that is now what Namo said/guffawed. I, myself, happen to like a song or two by both Ms. Aguilera and Mr. Timberlake. I like other popular artists more...but whatever.

I would like to point out (and please note this is not a slam against what you said bdwyguy) that if people have to add the caveat 'these are not your stereotypical pop stars...they can sing'...well, the state of pop music is pretty sad.

Which is why I'll pop in my three different recordings of NINE and play them on shuffle! Call be small-minded, call me a theatre snob, but to me, that's heaven, baby!
