lol Karma I thought I was the only one who has seen the dreadful "Saturday the 14th" As far as superstitions go I don't have too many, but I'll never pick up a coin off the ground if it's tails-ups.

I always knock on wood when I say something that I don't really want to happen...or even if I think it (which looks strange, because people will just see me knock on wood out of nowhere lol

lift my feet up over train tracks and that's it for me. but my parents....: when we move into a new house they will walk around the house throwing rice(to make sure spirits are kept fed and happy) with incense and saying buddhist prayers(to get all bad spirits out of the house). they hang mirrors on the doors to reflect back any evil that might be pointing towards the house. they have FORBIDDEN me or my sister to ever tap the soles of shoes together saying that it will cause us to trip, or break our legs or something like that when we wear the shoes. they have all the furniture in our house arranged w/ the feng shui way and when we just moved into this house they had a feng shui specialist come in and tell us how to arrange our furniture. we have the fu, lu, and so(asian people you know what i'm talking about. those three gods/king figurine thingys) in the front foyer thingy. i'm not sure if that's a superstition but whatever....anyway, i could go on and on and on and on and on. but i'll stop now.
parking for drive-thru service only. thank you.

I never say "Good luck" to a performer. I always say "Merde."

Hell, I just take any opportunity I can to swear in French.

I'm not really superstitious, but I always knock on wood. That and I throw salt over my shoulder if I spill it.

The old theatre superstitions... you don't say good luck you say break a leg and also not saying the name of a certain scottish play on opening night. Any others theatre superstitions of which I am not aware? I'm sure there is.
My avatar is a reminder to myself. I need lots of reminders...

"I never say "Good luck" to a performer. I always say "Merde."

No offense, but as an actor, that annoys the hell out of me.

Granted, I'm not one who likes to be bothered when I'm about to go onstage but I get even more annoyed when it's some weird theater superstition I'm being bothered for.

No Scottish plays. No whistling. No pinky shakes. No 'break a leg.' No 'Merde.'

God, I hate being bothered backstage, especially by other actors!

Whenever I am driving and pass a car with only one headlight, I yell "Padiddle" and hit the roof of my car.

If I run a yellow light, I kiss my hand and hit the roof also.

After eating chinese food, I always open my fortune cookie...and in order for it to come true, I have to eat the whole cookie and not eat any more of the Chinese food until 24 hours later. Weird...I know...

When I was growing up, I had to put my new shoes on the stove (not while it was turned on) for a few seconds. It was supposed to take the "fire" out of them. Go figure.

What do you guys think of this. On the ferry bus going toward Times Square on Saturday, a big black bird flew in the bus. It was shooed out after a few minutes. The next day, I heard a flutter in the chimney while I was on the computer, not knowing someone in the house had burned something in it, I thought it was my imagination. Later, after I came home, I found a small black bird on my book case in my room. It was on the very top of the bookcase which had all religious statues!!!!!!! My old cat was on the bed and not even paying any attention to it. I opened the bathroom window and shooed it out. Now what does this mean? Anyone? It is a bad omen or a good one. Only I would get blackbirds and not doves.

Well, I have heard that if a bird tries to get into your house, there will be a death in the home.

BTW, I've had many birds at my windows, pecking and trying to come in but nothing bad ever happened.

Yet.

John, I don't buy into any of the other superstitions, just that for some reason. Maybe it's more tradition than supertsition.

Although I've been thrown out of quite a few theatres for saying Macbeth.

If you let the bird out the same way it came in, then you've reversed the bad luck. I think the curse is up at midnight, broadwaylady. I'm sure you'll be fine re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: friday the 13th

I usually have good luck on Friday the 13th. I missed my pushy sister-in-law's visit while I was at the grocery today. Considering how aggravating she is, that's pretty good luck.

Most police officers, county deputies, firemen, and emergency room nurses know better to remark on how "quiet" their shift is going. It's a sure invitation for all hell to break loose.

I only succumb to the powers of the salt over the left shoulder and the Scottish play superstitions.
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."
