I noticed a new trend on some shows I have been tracking to see including Lehman Trilogy and Hadestown. The theatres are 'releasing' new seats and cheaper prices a little less than a week before performances. I think it is a deceptive and bad practice. I had rotten seats to Lehman and they released better ones that were cheaper a day after I bought mine. I didn't go to see Hadestown cause seats avail were $180 on the side very close to the stage. Today I saw that Wed the 17th matinee now has great seats at 120 (I already bought Trouble in Mind insted) Is this a Seat Geek thing - or a new practice that all theatres are doing. Seems slimy
Moulin Rouge has been doing this too. If you look at a random date, months from now, you are able to see which seats are clearly being held (usually the first 4 aisle seats in the right and left orch for the first 8 rows or so, as well as a number of center seats) as they are unavailable every performance. Meanwhile - they release them about 2 days prior to the show - like you said - usually at a better price.
