Step aside bone spurs.

Anyway….Pippin and Parade are my top choices.

"Sunset Blvd" - get the film made already!  Glenn Close is nearly 75.

I'd honestly love to see how he'd do Jagged Little Pill

Ooh, yes, Sunset Boulevard before Glenn gets too old! I also like the idea of Pippin but that seems to weird as well as too bleak for him.

I know! Douglas Carter Beane's book was actually funny!

Well, I mean when it's been a good few years since the last Cinderella film. And to be honest I am a gigantic Cinderella fan. I also think Spielberg should have directed Phantom of the OperaLes Mis, and Beauty and the Beast. Plus, maybe Spielberg would make the best Cinderella movie ever.

Wait, why? Do you want to direct Cinderella? I know I would want to direct it if I could. And had the skills lol.

I do not in the least comprehend this argument.
"

Well, we've already had a film of RAGTIME made by a Jewish man and a Broadway musical of RAGTIME written by goyim. It's about time that a Black artist put their stamp on the material...

Let me be clear that I think many Black directors could do great things with this material. It's the term "probably should have" for this particular work that I can't fathom.

For works by Black authors about Black experience--say The Color Purple (which, yeah, Spielberg did the original movie), Hadestown, any potential remake of The Wiz. List more works in this category and I'll continue to say yes. Black people should have the access and encouragement to tell their own stories.

But Ragtime isn't a work either created by Black artists or focusing primarily on Black experience, and most of the immigrants in the story aren't People of Color (Tateh and the Little Girl, Emma Goldman, Houdini are all Russian Jews). It's a work about all Americans. You'd have to have a pretty antagonistic view of white people to think a white director (who stands a very good chance of being a Jewish director, like Spielberg) couldn't do the material justice.

Hadestown isn’t a Black work about the Black experience. It’s by a white ex-Quaker, and almost every role in the show is ethnically neutral but instructed to maintain an atmosphere of diversity and inclusion.

Obviously, none of us have literally gone to Hell to rescue our lovers (none of us has ridden a cyclone to Oz, either, but I think it's fair to say The Wiz is about the Black experience), but I had thought it was written by Black artists, expressing their vision and contained a predominantly Black cast. Obviously I was wrong.

Okay, then it isn't best for it to be directed by a Black person, either. Anyone with of any race with talent is equally appropriate.

Make Hadestown animated and make it shorter.

Steven Spielberg has recently revealed that he won't be directing any more musicals following West Side Story. Although he is interested in producing them.

Had he done another musical, I think it would've been cool to see him do My Fair Lady with Diablo Cody as screenwriter

Spielberg said he won't direct another musical.

https://variety.com/2022/awards/news/steven-spielberg-pga-awards-2022-breakfast-1235209794/

"During the conversation, the two-time Oscar-winning director — for “Schindler’s List” (1993) and “Saving Private Ryan” (1998) — shared with the audience that he’ll never direct another musical in his career, although he’ll be involved as a producer on some. He’s currently co-producing the musical adaptation of “The Color Purple” with Fantasia Barrino and Danielle Brooks in the lead roles."

South Pacific and On the Town.

I was thinking of On the Town especially last night as I listened to the Times Square Ballet.  We could use a movie that bothered to use the actual Broadway score.
