Is anyone else watching this? Streaming for free until 6pm Friday 3 July BST. Based on Victor Hugo's 'The Man Who Laughs', it's a tragic gothic melodrama type story, with moments of irreverent joking thrown in. Audrey Brisson, aka the UK's Amelie, plays a lead role; there is also puppetry involved. I watched it yesterday (local time) and liked it. (If I were going to be one of the few to see it as a live show, I would write more of a review; but folks can watch it for themselves if they wish.)
The problem for me was that, with the exception of Julian Bleach as Barkilphedro (the clown and quasi-narrator), I found the characters either too bland or too stupid to care about. As with many shows, the tonal shifts might have worked better in person. The show does have some cleverly staged moments.
