Thanks for the comment. Linda is the most popular singer that most have never heard of. Every year she does two or three 3 night engagements at 54 Below and sells out at top prices.

The say that she is much more relaxed in front of an audience than she used to be.

I have seen here once in a small venue (around 2,000) but would love to see her in 54 Below !! Cute story for you. Years ago, I worked in a place where we could have a CD player and listen to music. Everyone brought in their CD's and we had some collection of music. One day, I told a few ladies they need to hear this lady called Linder Eder. I put on the CD and played them the song "Even Now" and they were just blown away !!

Our of curiosity, does Feinstein's allow patrons to record performances there on their phones, or were you ignoring the rules? If they allow it, I won't be going there anytime soon. I hate it when I am trying to watch a performance and am looking at multiple glowing phones of people who can't simply sit and enjoy the moment but feel they have to record the show, without permission from the performers or the venue.

Go on to youtube and you will see every Broadway performer you can think of performing at 54 Below. If they have a policy about it then they obviously don't enforce it.

That's great. The first time I saw her at 54 Below the man seated next to me at the table turned out to be a Linda groupie. He had hired out 54 Below for his retirement party and Linda was the entertainment. After his wife died he began just following Linda around from place to place and was very happy that she would greet him with a hug.

The first time I saw her, maybe because she had a new CD to sell, after the performance she just pulled up a chair at the end of the bar and was there for anyone who wanted her attention.

Didn't do that last week. Maybe because they had another show with another vocalist at 9:30.

Yes, 54 Below allows videos and they make a specific announcement from the stage, "54 Below does not allow flash photography." The performer can always overrule this, as was the case with Jeremy Jordan at his recent three week engagement.

Running a cabaret is a tough business. So many dates to fill. Chita Rivera was booked for two weeks last summer and about 10 days before she was to start it was announced that she was postponing her engagement. Probably due to health. So management is suddenly looking at two empty weeks with little time to fill them. I think allowing videos helps them to market the place. I know that it's an attraction to me.

I don't think that it is even noticed by many. I was further from the stage than usual but no one was sitting in front of me blocking Linda. I just push the record button and hold the phone/camera in one hand pointing at the stage. It makes no noise and gives off no light, at least that the performer can see. They don't darken the house lights as they do in a theater so there are no glowing dots in the dark.

But the first time a took a video there I wasn't very familiar with the camera. Matthew Morrison was the performer, but I felt like I hit the lottery when Kelli O'Hara showed up that night as his guest. The did "Say It Somehow" from Light in the Piazza. The camera was operating for about thirty seconds when someone tapped me on the shoulder and told me that my flash was on. Very embarrassing. I guess I turned off the flash and resumed the recording. I got a lot of mileage out of that video, minus the first 30 seconds, ultimately tweeting it to Kelli after she had made a comment about Matthew and herself liking to do that song together. She answered me and posted the video on her Twitter feed for public consumption.

Maybe someday I'll have enough going on in my life so that I won't get such a charge about getting some attention from a Broadway star.

OlBlueEyes - very interesting and informative post. I have filmed parts of concerts I have attended in the past but never in a place as intimate as 54 Below. If you know what you are doing and have your camera set properly, you will not bother anyone. I usually do 1-2 songs at most because I want to enjoy the moment but still have something to remember years later. Performers don't care about being recorded for the most part, they take the youtube clips that appear as publicity for them. As long as you are not trying to make a profit from it, I don' think it is a big deal. Thanks again for sharing these clips with us.

Thanks for commenting. I thought for sure that this was going to one of those no response threads. But the last time I saw Linda I posted a couple of videos and smoked out a few of her very loyal fans.

My Kelli/Matthew video is still on Kelli's Twitter feed if you scroll way down. Has 4.8K views on Twitter. It's not my biggest success. I went to see Betsy Wolfe at 54 Below a year ago and Jeremy Jordan was her guest. I knew Jeremy had been in Bonny and Clyde and was popular but I had no idea that he had thousands of "fangirls."

I took a video of the Betsy and Jeremy duet. They were really cute together that night and finally after joking around they sang "Suddenly Seymour." I uploaded that video and a Betsy solo to YouTube just for my own use. No promotion. Eighteen hours later when I checked back the Betsy solo video had 54 views and the duet with Jeremy 4000. Now it's closing in on 40,000 since Jeremy is going to do Little Shop.

Not that I want to be greedy, but if I had just collected ten cents a view.... That won't even buy a gumball.   I really like 54 Below and I hope this dark period doesn't put the business in danger.

Jeremy was in Season 2 of "SMASH" and has been on the show "Supergirl" which has probably accounted for the "fangirls" - lol.

Wow, 40,000 !! That is awesome. My brother in-law makes a bunch of youtube clips from shows he has seen and if he hits the 1,000 views he considers it a success. Granted, most of his are of classic rock acts like Billy Joel or Elton John for example. He is excellent at recording and does great job even from the back row of arena -lol.

Like I said, I have recorded things for myself and to share. Never thought of trying to make money from it but understand your point - ha ha. I agree, I hope clubs like 54 Below survive.
