I’d think rush would have a negligible effect on grosses. I mean both successful and unsuccessful shows have rush. Plus if rush lines are huge, that would be a sign of great word-of-mouth/enthusiasm for the show plus great free advertising. If you can’t tell, I’m really hoping for this to be a success. My threefavorite jukebox musicals (American Idiot, Moulin Rouge!, and, to a lesser extent, Mamma Mia) are not bio-musicals. Of course, it depends on whether they’ve fine-tunedthe story. I’m also excited for Tina so I suppose it also is about being a fan of both artists’ musical output. Of course, I also love Donna Summer’s music and loved some of Cher’s, but reported problems with the books kept me away. At this point however, I don’t think anything could keep me away from JLP or Tina.

Oh I'm totally with you!! I hope it's a success as well! On a whim I bought a ticket to the ART production, and as soon as it was over I was like, this better transfer to Broadway!! I'm so so thrilled that it's coming. Are you seeing it this month?

No, I’m hoping that work sends me back to NYC in December. If so, then it’s just about being able to find an affordable ticket. I’m hoping I can grab a ticket via Audience Rewards.

While I plan to attend this show at some point (whether it be Broadway or on tour, missed it at ART) my concern will be the marketing. A lot of new shows want to be the next Evan Hansen and the promos for this show almost makes it feel like a dramatic Glee special. For some reason its not connecting with me and I love Alanis Morrisette. As I said I will personally be checking this one out eventually but the marketing has me worried for its broader appeal.

I agree that the marketing for this show could be more appealing and the message should be more convincing. I still have trouble understanding what the show is about, what is the story and why it is a must see. The description on the official website is too vague.

I’m really curious why there isn’t a discount because it really doesn’t seem to be selling particularly well (and yes, I’ve searched multiple performances over the next couple of months). Bummed I missed this on Audience Rewards. Hoping to see it on November 13th. C’mon TDF/rush!

I'm super excited to see JLL, saw it at ART and enjoyed it there, hoping that they've tightened it up a little. But I am curious why a show that is looking to skew young with their target audience has not released yet (a week before previews!) if they'll do rush or lottery at all. Frankly the discounts I've seen so far are a joke. I definitely want to see this show, but the prices are so high. Yes, I know, all theater shows have skyrocketed and this is how they return their investment, but it just feels steep for me.

The question is how long will I be willing to wait to break down and pay the price.

I wouldn’t say their target audience is super young, at least not as young as something like Be More Chill. Most teens don’t even know who Alanis is. I would think it will mainly be mid 20s to people in their 50s who are most excited for this.

For a show that starts previews in less than a week, I have barely seen any marketing for the show. I'm more aware of Bella Bella than I am this show - and I've been Googling JLP so not even their cookies are working.
