To those who have seen it - any need to do any background reading to appreciate this play?

Not necessary. I went in with a very limited knowledge of the Lehman brothers, and I was engaged throughout. The storytelling is all there on the stage.

The 2017-2018 season had the same number (1894, The Children, Farinelli and the King, Angels in America, Harry Potter, and Travesties)

2016-2017 had even more: The Encounter, Les Liaisons Dangereuse, Sunset Boulevard, Miss Saigon, The Play that Goes Wrong, Groundhog Day, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Cats (these last two are debatabe - not sure if they are technically considered the same productions that played in London - especially since Charlie had a different director. But even if you strike those, that still makes 6, matching this upcoming season)

2014-2015 also had 6: Curious Incident, The River, Constellations, The Audience, Skylight, Wolf Hall

I started looking back through earlier seasons, but none of them matched 6 as far as I could tell, and then I got far back enough that I wasn't as familiar the productions, and didn't feel like looking them all up.

But the answer to your question is: yes, there has been this same number of London transfers in the past.

I concur.  They do a great job of giving you all the info you need to know.

Re: Ticket prices, I'm quite pleased I was able to get a Standing Room ticket a week ago in London for a mere 18 GBP!  That works out to somewhere around $22, which is probably half what they'd go for in NY (if they even do SRO at the Nederlander).
