I'm totally a lurker here but just wanted to put in a plug for Six the musical.... it's a concert performance by Henry VIII's six wives. I saw it at the Edinburgh Fringe and it's just opened up a run in the West End until October. Imagine if the Spice Girls had Hamilton's baby. The music is super earwormy and the girls playing the Queens are spectacular. I'm not affiliated with the show or anything....just loved it and wanted to pass on some good word of mouth. Each of the previews have sold out so I guess others feel the same!
I also caught this on the West End and it was phenomenal. The cast was spectacular and the musical itself was wonderful! It's a concert musical in the style of Altar Boyz where the members of this girl group are made up of Henry VIII's six wives. They tell their stories and sing music that is a mix of pop, hip-hop, and R&B a la Little Mix, and Beyonce.
There were so many really wonderful moments that reminded me musically of Hamilton with intricate clever raps.
GO SEE IT. Perfect musical for the #metoo movement.
We caught the West End Live performance on YouTube back in June. And have been following it ever since albeit from the States. My daughter is obsessed with the cast recording and anxiously awaits the publication of the sheet music. Each day, she has a different favorite queen's song. Tere are a few videos of the megamix at the end of the show on YouTube..
We hear that after the tour the show may return to London in January - and we just might be able to catch it then as part of a trip to Europe.
I saw a bit of this at one of those taster evenings they have at the Edinburgh Festival and was eager for more. I had an awareness it would be in the West End, but thought it was next year. I'm now kicking myself because it seems it was already on when I was in London last month.
