I caught the current Sound Of Music tour last night. It didn't sell well at all for our Broadway series. When shows don't sell, they always have a last minute lottery for a very reduced price. For this show it was $30. I am not really that lucky, but I always seem to win our Artist Series lottery. I think anyone who enters win. Anyway, it is the first time in a long time that I could tell the difference in an equity vs non equity tour. It just came across so cheap. The singing was rather good at least to my untrained ear. However, the acting across the board was just awful. Curious if anyone else has seen this or planned to see it. What are your opinions?
Huh...I saw it last week in New Haven and it was magnificent. The cast is younger than springtime, but the voices were some of the best I have heard in any show all year. I am not a big fan of SOM but this was by far the best production I have seen of it. Weirdest of all is not sure were you think it looks cheap. The costumes are amazing (Jan Greenwood) The set is very well done for an old school prop and drop style musical, and the lighting is Natasha Katz. Plus the orchestra sounded great.
